About six months later, I see tsunami relief start up again and I think: this is ridiculous. The tsunami is over people, for fucks sake stop. Turns out, that 'renewed tsunami relief' was actually Hurricane Katrina relief. Yeah, I don’t watch TV, at all.
Concerning begging and charity con artistry, I completely agree that these are detestable and/or dishonest means of earning money. However, I can’t help but admire using the art of deception and humiliation to survive. There’s just something about tricking people into giving you money that makes me detest the givers far more than the takers. If you’re that stupid to give your money away like that, you deserve to have it taken from you. Although, giving away money does occasionally have its perks such as publicity.

As you say it, I agree. Actual con artists/tricksters/professional liars/shenanigan artists are pretty cool, in a performer sort of way. Way back long ago I posted about Adrienne Denese - she is/was a lady who'd weave these marvelous lectures which'd extol the virtues of various skin cremes she peddled. It was all exaggerated technobabble claptrap, of course - but her presentation, eloquence, and charming European accent made it all very pleasant to behold. Years ago, when her infomercials were on during the small hours, I'd soothe myself to sleep with them.
