[The camera turns on, showing a young woman clad in a patterned scarf and a red suede jacket. The jacket itself looks a bit worn, but the color remains ever so vibrant. Also, it’s really hard to miss that questioning look in her eyes.]

A warden? Not the kind of work placement I’m used to. [Though it’s not like her last job offer was any more ( Read more... )

[Dick is just... going to stare at this for a while before deciding he needs to figure out just how much - if anything - you remember. Bats are kind of dicks like that. :c]

They can tell you where your inmate is when we pull into port, otherwise they just let you know if they're seriously injured or dead. If you need a tracking device for our time on the Barge, I think you need to request it from the Admiral.

Ah thanks. [Smiles politely. There's no sign of recognition whatsoever.]

Though what do you mean by port exactly? Does the Barge actually dock at places? [Seriously where does one dock when they're floating in freakin' space?!]

[While he debates telling her about her previous time here, he'll just. Keep answering questions. :|]

Sort of. It's kind of hard to explain. Sometimes we have the option of leaving the ship for a while, or we just get sort of dumped out in a new environment. A few weeks ago, we were given the option to explore a world that had been devastated by nuclear war. Back around Christmas, we stopped in a world that was basically sort of archetypal Bavarian Germany.

[Works for her. Answers are all she needs! :D]

Wow, that's really something. [Hearing stories like that really peak her curiosity.] So did you explore that world? What was it like?

I think the best way to find out where your Inmate is to make friends and then ask them.

That makes sense. Connections are important. [Though making them will take awhile.]

So, I'm guessing wardens get a lot of down time then?

I meant making friends with your Inmate. But, yours works too. You should do both.

It depends. Some people have jobs on board, some people spend a lot of time with their Inmates, some people do research...you can really be as busy as you want to be. But there can be quite a bit of time where nobody's really expecting you to do anything.

...

Oh, erm, by the by, I should tell you something. You were already here for a while. At least, somebody who looked exactly like you and had your name...was here. It's not unusual for people to come back as if it's their first time, but...don't be surprised if some other people remember you. I didn't really speak to you - her - the first time she was here, though.

[That first half of information seems really helpful and all, but all of Ariadne's attention seems to be focused on the latter. That explains the weird responses she's been getting, but it also raises more questions that need to be answered asap.]

I'm beginning to see what you mean. People have been welcoming me back or questioning my status as a new warden. Still, if I really was here, then why can't I recall anything? Why would somebody use my identity to stay here and then just leave? It doesn't add up.

So. You returned.

[She doesn't even try to hide the hiss in her voice.]

[Wait, what?! Brb, checking her totem. This can't be a dream, right?

Her totem falls right in place, in that particular way she modified it to do so. This is reality.

Ariadne stares back at the communicator's screen. She's at a loss for words, so she asks a question instead.]

Return?

I suppose you'll tell me you don't remember. People go away and come back and forget, but usually they have the grace to be gone for longer.

I don't.... disclose my warden item because if I get knocked out by an inmate I don't want it taken off of me. But it's nothin' like that.

Um... You don't remember me, do you?

Fair enough. [She should have stated that this was all confidential, but it's too late now. At least, there's others willing to answer her questions.]

I don't. How could I? This is the first time I met you. [Seriously, that question makes no sense.]

[Kay is just one of the most paranoid people in existence.] You were on the ship before. We knew each other a little. You were acquainted with my inmate.

[She shakes her head.] Sorry but I don't recall any of that. I don't even know who you are, let alone your inmate.

Hello, Ariadne!

[She waves. SHE'S A VERY TINY PERSON, barely pushing three feet. And dressed in an ornate robe. WELCOME TO THE BARGE, IT'S WEIRD HERE.]

My item's a pocketwatch, and I can't answer the rest, because I don't have an inmate yet. But I think these are all good things to put in the pamphlet I'm working on if you do find out the answers. New wardens really don't have enough information given to them about this place when they arrive.

[Goodness, she is extremely tiny. Then again, Ariadne got the short end of the stick as well, so she doesn't have a place to judge. Plus, this person seems really friendly.]

You're working on a pamphlet? That would be really helpful. [Especially since a billion of her questions have gone unanswered.]

So, what other information are you putting into it?

Well, I've been trying to inform all of the new people that don't seem too much like they're going to be hostile about ports and barge comas. The ship comes to dock sometimes, and the Admiral can be misleading about the conditions of departure.

Warden filter drafting_dreams March 22 2011, 19:09:42 UTC
[Whoa, comas? That sounds pretty sketch. :I Actually, this whole place seems seedy.] What kind of conditions?
