The sleep test, part two.

Apr 06, 2010 09:22

I realize that I never posted about the sleep test, part one - but here it is in a nutshell. I went to get sleep tested last week to see how severe my sleep apnea is. It's moderate to severe. So, we scheduled another appointment so I could try the CPAP machine and they could figure out what pressure to use ( Read more... )

Good luck!! Dion has had a CPAP for awhile, with some improvement in his sleep quality. Also, if Paul is at all concerned about the noise level keeping HIM awake, I'll tell you that I've found the CPAP to be blissfully soothing compared to D's snoring...;)

I have one and it has made me function a lot better. The water's called rainout. They had the humidity turned up too high.

Probalby does not have to do with size of mask, although it could. When you talk to your DME, try on a bunch of different masks. I personally swear by the Mirage Activa and Mirage Activa LT.

But your mileage may vary.

Also check out cpaptalk.com it is a self help board and a great place to ask for advice.

I think the main problem with the first mask was that it was too danged tight. The area directly under my nose and a part of the upper bridge of my nose still hurt if you touch it at all. The second mask was more comfortable and wasn't placed on my head nearly as tight. Plus, there wasn't any leaking with the second mask either. The second tech could have adjusted the humidity when I went to the bathroom too.

Thanks for the resource!

CPAP adjustments cleveyu April 8 2010, 00:23:18 UTC
Thank you for your comments on your CPAP mask. I must say that it took me several trips to the sleep center to finally get one that finally fitted me. Add to that the fact that sleeping with the mask is an adjustment to begin with, I was very frustrated at first when I started using the mask for my CPAP machine. I feel I certainly am in good company.

This was the mask that was used for my test. I don't own a CPAP machine just yet. I will go in next week to see the results and see if I get to take a machine home. I didn't mind the second mask during the test, so being fidgety and needing to change positions wasn't even an issue.

I'm learning there are quite a few people who use CPAP machines, so I think we are all in good company. :-)
