Can someone explain to me why we pay taxes on the money we earn and the money we spend? Does the government not realize that the money we earn and the money we spend is the same money? Not paying sales tax would put a lot more money in my pocket.

They do realize it's the same money and they're hoping you won't.

I'd also like to point out how, in Ohio, you have to pay taxes to the city you work in and the city you live in without any way to get a refund from the city you work in, and the city you live in still takes a ton of money from you. Not to mention that we pay taxes to the state, taxes to the gov't, taxes on things we buy.. and people call massachusetts taxachusetts. They've never been to Taxhio (Ohio).
