norse stickball

i kinda sorta agreed to make a chain ball for the grand thing. as a stick ball veteran I thought I'd ask yo some questions. i know it has to be about the size of a tennis ball or baseball, but what kind of weave do they use. no where on line talks about it at all. jason says a japanese 4in1 cube looks about right. my only problem is that I'm not so good at doing multi level mail, oh and I'm also running out of links. so i was wondering if there were any short cuts, like making a chain casing for a tennis ball. jay said that chain was most durable and "hurt less to get hit by because it had some give." any comments you have would be appreciated. Hope all is well.
