The Handsome Stranger

Chapter Fifteen ... Kilpisjärvi

Harry slept.

He had lain wrapped in Draco's arms for a very long time, happily sated from the most incredible sex he could remember. It had left his body tingling and he could still feel the imprint of Draco inside him, like the afterimage of light on his retina -- there but not there, both at the same time.

As he rested against Draco’s chest, lulled by the slow, steady beat of the man’s heart, he knew something very special had taken place that night. It filled him with a sense of belonging that had been the missing part he needed to complete himself. This was the state of being he'd been searching for; something so profound he had always assumed it was impossible to find.

His last memory before sleep finally took him was the feel of Draco's fingers tracing patterns on his skin and of the comforting noise of the Helsinki to Rovaniemi train that reminded him of the Hogwarts Express.

Now he dreamed of being wrapped in wings. There was snow and kisses and lights in the sky, and somewhere he could hear a familiar voice whispering Welcome Home.

Draco didn't sleep.

Instead he watched Harry. He didn't want to miss even a moment of their time together -- every breath, murmur and movement. The resonance of their lovemaking still crackled between them and he wondered if Harry was aware of it.

He smiled fondly as he fiddled with a lock of Harry’s hair.

Veela Magic.

Or at least that was what Jouko had called it the first time Draco had experienced the sexual energy snaking up and down his spine. It was part of their bond and over the next few months he’d learned to harness it until it tingled through each and every nerve.

It was something he hadn’t experienced since Jouko’s death. Draco hadn’t been celibate since then, but the bond he still shared with Jouko suppressed everything else. Even with a fellow Veela, the Magic hadn’t flowed. Which was why it hadn't been there when they'd made love in Harry's apartment a little over a week ago.

So to feel the Magic here with Harry tonight was wondrous and it only reinforced Draco's belief that in Harry he'd found his mate. He hadn't slept since the previous day's confession to his mother in the Hall of Reminiscence and afterwards she had stood with him and Jouko’s family as he'd ended his bond.

It had been an awful moment; like a sliver of ice being plunged into his heart leaving an empty, cold place where Jouko had once been. He hadn't realised just how much he’d relied on his bond even though Jouko was no longer there and the thought of living with that emptiness filled him with horror.

But it had solidified the truth he’d known for years; that he needed Harry not only as a lover but also as a friend and companion. Unfortunately he wasn’t sure how to explain this without frightening Harry away.

Of course the easiest thing would be just to tell Harry about the possibility of being pregnant. If it transpired that he was, then Draco knew the one-time Gryffindor would never walk out on his child. If nothing else, Harry Potter would take his parental responsibilities very seriously.

But that wasn’t the relationship he wanted with Harry. He wanted Harry to understand what being a Veela was about and that there was a place for him both in that society and his own life in Britain.

Tomorrow he would show Harry his life in Kilpisjärvi, and the day after they would celebrate the New Year together. And after that?

Harry murmured something in his sleep and Draco pulled him close enough to kiss him on the forehead, tasting Harry on the tip of his tongue. He reached for the quilt, covering Harry's bare shoulder.

Well, they would have to wait and see, wouldn't they?

Harry wasn’t sure if it was the train coming to a stop or Draco’s rather insistent hand that roused him from his slumbers. But he was warm and comfortable under the thick blankets, and was more than happy to have Draco touch him wherever he wanted.

He hummed happily as the dextrous fingers played him to full wakefulness and he finally emerged from under the covers. A strange, ethereal light illuminated the compartment and it took Harry a moment to realise that it was the reflection from the snow.

Torn between the fingers and the need to look, Harry pushed himself up on his elbows and tried to focus bleary eyes out of the window. It was still dark outside and he realised he had no idea what the time was, but the landscape was like something out of a fairytale. He expected Mr Tumnus the faun or the Snow Queen to suddenly appear.

Then he realised the moon was almost full and it was that reflecting off the snow.

He dropped back against Draco’s warmth.

“What time is it?”

“A little after seven.” Draco’s words were warm against his neck. “We’re due to arrive at Rovaniemi in about fifty minutes.” He shifted closer, one leg winding around Harry’s.

“Then what do we do? Outi mentioned getting a car.”

Draco chuckled. “Did she indeed. Did she mention shooing reindeer off the road as well?”

Harry shrugged. “She might have.”

“And you thought that might be fun?”

“It might be.” Harry grinned before flicking his tongue over one of Draco’s nipples.

“And getting buried under snow when the snowplough passes and you’ve stopped in the wrong place? Would that be fun too?” Draco pushed his fingers into Harry’s hair, holding him still.

The message clear, Harry licked at the nipple again, feeling it tightened with each pass. “Gervais thought we might see polar bears.” He pulled the hardening nub between his teeth and tugged gently.

“Gervais?” Draco’s fingers tightened and he hitched his leg further around Harry’s, pulling his thighs apart. “One of the many Weasleys?” The fingers of his free hand played over Harry’s arse.

Harry paused as the fingers found their way into his cleft and he gave a moan of delight, muscles trembling at the touch. “Bill and Fleur’s eldest. He...” His voice cracked with desire and he swallowed, trying to clear the croakiness. “He wanted me to bring him home a polar bear.” He turned his attention to the other nipple.

“No polar bears in Finland.” Draco hissed as Harry sucked, hoping he would leave a mark on the man’s beautiful skin.

“So it’s just reindeer we have to look out for?” Harry rutted a little against Draco’s leg, as the train started moving again. “That and the penguins.”

“No!” Draco grabbed at Harry, turning him onto his back. “Penguins are from Antarctica. You’ve got a lot to learn, Potter.”

“Really?” He squirmed at the pressure of Draco’s hips against his own, his hard length touching all the right places. Merlin, he wanted to be balls-deep inside Draco right this minute. He panted. “I ... I wonder who I can get to teach me?” He spread his legs wider, fingers gripping at Draco’s firm buttocks in a desperate attempt to increase the pressure between them.

“Oh, Harry.” Draco became still, the action stopping Harry from moving as well. “I have so much I want to teach you.” He leaned close enough to brush his lips against Harry’s. “And so much I want to show you.”

The kiss wasn’t full of passion, but something deeper and it made the breath catch in Harry’s chest. It felt hard to get air into his lungs and his lips parted as he tried to breathe. Feathers rustled above him and the air he dragged through that breath tasted of Draco and of magic.

“Then teach me ... show me.” Harry hooked his ankle around Draco’s. “Show me now.”

It was snowing when they Apparated and so cold it took Harry’s breath away. He huddled closer to Draco as he pulled the hood of his jacket back over his head and tried to peer out at a landscape unlike anything he’d ever seen. It was dark; almost twilight, but what little light there was reflected off the snow revealing a stark beauty. They were on a hillside, ankle-deep in snow looking down at a frozen lake. Of course he was used to snow from his years at Hogwarts, but that didn’t prepare him for this.

This really was a land of myth and legend. It was wild and Harry had the feeling that they were almost at the end of the earth.

Then he felt it. Magic unlike any he’d ever experienced before. It curled around him like the snowflakes and he gasped as it reached into his soul.

He heard Draco’s chuckle. “It quite takes your breath away, doesn’t it?”

“It’s....” The magic made him feel dizzy; as if he’d been spinning round and round, and he remembered Outi telling him the strong the magic might feel. “I’m sorry but I think I need to sit down.”

“I’ve got you.” A strong arm reached around Harry’s back. “Not everyone feels it, of course, and those that do always find it overpowering to start with.”

“Really?” Harry let Draco take his weight, surprised at how good it felt to be held like this.

“It had the same effect on me on my first visit. The more powerful a person’s magic is the more they feel it.” Draco’s arm tightened a little. “Come on, let’s get inside.”

“In a minute. I just want to take it all in.”

“Okay.” Draco waved his free hand and the snow ceased to fall. Or rather it ceased to touch them; Draco had not only magicked a protective zone about them but Harry was sure it was fractionally warmer.

“Is that the Veela village?” Harry pointed towards a collection of lights some distance away.

“No, that’s where the Muggles live. About two hundred people live in the area, plus the tourist population throughout the year. The Veela community is unplottable but you can see some of the houses.” Draco pointed to some lights in the opposite direction. “Mine is over there, but during the winter most Veela move inside.”

“Inside?”

“Inside Saana Fell.” Draco nodded and gestured at the mountain behind them. “Welcome to Kilpisjärvi, Harry.”
