I always thought the syphillis deaths were the most interesting. By interesting, of course, I mean painful and infectious.
If you ever get around to WW2, try reading Colditz by Henry Chancellor. I got my copy in the UK, so it should be handy. It's better than Reid's account of the Colditz escapees. It's a hell of a lot more fun to read, too, and doesn't gloss over some of the less-fun details.
And the escapades of the Brits and the French [and the Poles and Americans] are rather amusing. Like the fellow who stuffed his bra with biscuits... ;]
