I have the book and am reading it through. I have quite a bit of experience with playing RPGs but I haven't played this one yet. I was wondering if people knew about it and what their experiences with it were.
For the most part, I liked the system. My GM is an experienced one and an avid player of the video games, and he ran an entertaining story set five years prior to Origin.
My one gripe--and it was a major gripe--was that, playing an archer rogue, I ran into some serious efficacy problems in combat as we leveled. As the bad guy's armor also improved, I reached a point where I very rarely could do damage, and only if I rolled doubles and could do a Feat. My GM took my woes to a forum, and they chalked it up to 'bad dice luck', but I think it was a flaw in the system.
The only other thing was that we wound up making a lot of house rules to make the game feel more like the video game; the magic system was another one that got heavily re-worked.
It makes me think about how my Dorianmancer, Dion Trevelyan, who took up Necromancy as a way to get to know Dorian better, would be received when they both are there turning the dead and using spirits. I'd bet they'd be called heathens, but only behind their backs, lol.
I also headcanon that one or both of them will raise little fennecs or hyenas that get killed and have their spirits following them like pets when they're out wandering around Southern Thedas :P (And Dion only rides the Bog Unicorn - it arrived after he chose his specialisation, it was a sign from Holy Andraste!)
116 Fallout 4 settlers (not counting robots or companions) all with their own unique personal hook. With 17 settlements I find I'm actually a bit short of people and am impatient for more to turn up.
You know, considering my tendency to micromanage and come up with stories for every little thing, you'd think that the Sims and Sim city would be right up my alley. But I am a terrible - just totally terrible - builder. So it doesn't really work.
I have turned off my recruitment beacon. At something like 120 settlers. I still have a gap for a medic at my main base, but I don't want to just put anyone into that role so I'm going to leave to blank for now.
In other exciting news I found a random stranger working in one of my farms. This might not seem odd, with a hundred and twenty people, but I keep careful notes. Somehow I stuck someone in a job and then totally forgot about them. I am very confuses and suspicious.
I might have to move him to a new settlement. One upstate, where's there's lots of room to run around and other settlers to play with. But unfortunately they don't allow visitors.
I actually know who my Synth settlers are, everyone gets recruited at a central location and screened before they get sent out to the different settlements. And by "screened" I mean I save the game, shoot them in the head, check the corpse, and then reload.
I still let them in because I'm not going to cheat, but I check.
