I know this happened last week and everyone here sort of celebrated when it was announced, but I was listening to an episode of the VGS podcast this morning, and the host seemed to think it was not a great sign for Bioware and "what kind of company" (his words) it might be transforming into as a result. Namely, his point was that the BSN allowed fans to directly contact the devs in a way he doesn't seem to think Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook will ever emulate. He seems to imply that BW is closing themselves off from the fan community in a way--or at least attempting to.

Personally, I thought it was probably primarily an economic decision (the sheer amount of stuff on the BSN had to be taking up loads of server space) influenced by thethe toxicity of people on the BSN and the very real fact that twitter, tumblr,, and facebook are all still very popular social media platforms that BW doesn't have to pay for.

What do you think?

Not only are Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr popular, Bioware doesn't have to moderate them.

Unfortunately, almost no one else is moderating those sites, either. At least, not very well.

Bad news: It looks like the remaster of Mass Effect likely will not be happening. The official word from EA's chief competition officer Peter Moore is that they do not want to distract from Andromeda and future ME games.

But maybe it's not a "never ever" but not right now? I can see his point about distracting from Andromeda. But maybe in the empty years between games?

I refuse to give up hope!
