The Great Wall and one of the downsides of travel

Wednesday Rob and I went to the Great Wall.  Given my loathing of pushy vendors and crowds we did not go to Badaling, the closest and most frequently visited section of the wall.  We went instead to Jinshanling.  It was about a four hour bus ride outside of Beijing... Dude, if it helps, the first time I came to Korea (when I visited Lee in 2007) I had to ask a pharmacist for hemorrhoid medication, using hangul I had painstakingly written out onto a piece of paper alongside the English.

The pharmacist was an old man and he laughed at me. Like a lot. But oddly I found this funny instead of insulting and it remains one of my happiest memories of that trip, for no apparent reason. Nothing like a medical condition to get you face to face with the country as it is.

Really wish I had more money right now so I could come out and meet you somewhere along the road. But I remain firmly ensconced between your destinations, alas.

I've done bus rides like that in the Philippines. Not fun. That said, I'm jealous of your trip; you're hitting a part of the world I have yet to explore.
