CHARACTER INFORMATION-
Canon Character and Series: Flynn Scifo
In-Game Name: Major Flynn Scifo
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Position & Ship: Boatswain, Victoria II
Appearance: Flynn stands around 5’9”, with well formed shoulders and musculature from years of training and travel. He tends to hold himself at attention more often then not, with a straight posture and commanding presence when he’s on duty. His blond hair is cut just above his ears, with some of it curling to frame his face and bright blue eyes.
His choices in clothing tends towards practical, sturdy, well pressed and comfortable… when he’s not in uniform. When on duty he wears a version of the Ivonian officer uniform with the added bits of armor from the traditional Parliament Knights uniform.
Personality: If Flynn is anything he is dedicated. Ever since he was a child he’s devoted his life to one over reaching ideal, and stuck with it for over half of his life. He’s an idealist through and through, yet not a completely unrealistic one. At his heart he wants to make the world a better, safer place for everyone… but he knows that it’ll take work, that nothing will be easy and that he will be fought step by step along the way. But he is also stubborn as a mule, and no matter what is thrown in his path he will continue on it. True, this will occasionally blind him to some of the slippery aspects of political life, but that does not dissuade him.
It’s hard to describe Flynn without talking about Yuri. He’s both Yuri’s twin and inverse. They share the same ideals of equality and justice but are on very separate paths for how it must be done. Unlike Yuri, Flynn has a core of patience in him, and is willing to wait for his better future. Seeing people get hurt while he’s tangled up in the law hurts him, but he believes that playing judge and jury (and like Yuri, executioner) is simply the first step into a downward spiral. So instead of throwing himself into each tiny personal crime against the people, Flynn plays Politian. And is good at it.
But saying Flynn is nothing more then his goals (perhaps even ambitions, though he would hate to use such a term) is selling him short. He is a kind, loyal and earnest young man, and honest to a fault. He does anything for his friends and is a source of strength to those that fight alongside him. While he is very talented he has yet to fall to any hubris, and in fact tends to blame himself for any failings of the group as a whole. He’s a workaholic, and refuses to be any less then his best at all times. Though, he does have his blind spots: he can be considered a bit of a boy scout, and some may find him a bit preachy and demanding when he really gets going. In fact, he’s a bit of a mother-hen and will pester others “for their own good”, getting easily frustrated when he’s ignored or brushed aside. He could even be compared to a rather pushy, and occasionally easily scandalized, Aunt. His intentions are good… but he can get outright annoying.
He also has a love for battle, though not a bloodlust. Challenging himself and going beyond his limits invigorates him. And finding someone that can challenge him, that can force him to be better not only in battle but in other ways, is something he strives for. When he’s struggling against someone else his more snaky side shows up, and he can show a rather completive streak. Much like a certain mercenary Captain.
Abilities/Weapons: Flynn is a skilled swordsman, specializing in one handed swords and shields. He also can handle the common Navy weaponry and a few of the less noble bits of gear found in the Lower Quarter. On top of that he has limited skills as a mage, specifically healing spells.
He also carries a Bohdi Blastia: a small mana stone set magic item that slightly enhances his skills in battle, though he refuses to use it in friendly combat unless the other has a similar item.
There is also a hidden skill in his arsenal. Something so powerful, so horrifying, that grown men whimper in terror and women faint dead away. That power is… his cooking. Dear god never let this man in a kitchen, for all that is holy!
How well can your character hack?: Not at all. He leaves that to those that specialize in that sort of thing.
Weaknesses: In a fight Flynn can be a little on the slow side due to his armor and shield, so someone with acrobatic skills has an advantage on him. He also is pretty crappy with ranged weapons.
Personality-wise he can be blinded by those he trusts, especially if he thinks they share his views. He finds it hard to believe they could betray him or turn against the better good.
Due to his quick rise through the ranks he also has plenty of enemies, and many Navy soldiers distrust him or are envious and would be happy to see him gone. Add in his habit of sticking his nose where it shouldn’t be, and it’s a recipe for disaster.
History: Flynn spent his childhood in the Lower Quarter of Bellcius, orphaned and poor as dirt. Even so, he grew up well, taught a sense to community and loyalty by the other residents who practically raised him and his best friend Yuri Lowell. Though he was happy, he knew the people of the Lower Quarter deserved a better life, and with Yuri he joined the navy to try and make a difference. They were assigned to the Parliament Knights, a more specialized branch of the Navy that reported directly to the Parliament and were charged not only with direct missions, but with protecting the Parliament members. It was here that he first saw how the government really worked. Any ideas of how bad things were tiny in comparison to what he saw. After a short period of time Yuri left, too frustrated and disgusted with what he saw.
But Flynn stayed, determined to tough it out, to make a mark on the system. Eventually his dedication started to pay off. He was quickly promoted to Lieutenant a scant few months after taking on active duty. For awhile he divided his time between traveling Reial on the Parliaments behalf and being stationed in Bellcius to guard the families of those in power.
Then the Parliament assassinations happened. And the ship bombings. And Doma.
The Knights were in chaos after the terrorist attacks, some of them dying in the attacks or in the ship bombings, while others quit or retired in shame or panic. It was during the investigations that Flynn really got a chance to shine. A small Brigade of soldiers had been assigned to him, and many conspirators were sniffed out… though none that could really lead to the truth. Even so, with so many Knights gone and more bodies needed Flynn suddenly found himself a Major at the almost unheard of age of 21.
The promotion kept him busy,
But as he excelled under the stress, the Captains of the Knights decided to send him on a new mission: The Victoria II had just lost an important Erealian noble, and even before that things were looking… off on the infamous ship. Flynn had his orders. Be assigned to the ship as a normal crewman and assist in any way he could. While he assumes it to offer support to the Admiral, who knows the Parliament’s true intent?
