I remember that day. I was in trouble and not allowed to go to recess, but the teachers who grounded me to the library let me watch the launch with them. I was upset afterwards, and Neil was mean to me. (we were in 6th grade)
Nothing that stands out. If you point it out I'd likely remember it. I remember Reagan flying through Decatur Airport, our boyscout troop helped blow up balloons for it. It was basically a whistlestop from an airplane, I don't think he ever left the tarmac...
ferinstance, I do remember much of the Shuttle program development, I was fascinated by space at the time... but I couldn't tell you anything special about they day they dropped the enterprise off of the 747, not even when that was.
Yeah, I would have said the same. My class was watching it live, apparently. I was home sick and watching the Price is Right and I remember being extremely annoyed that my game-show watching was interrupted by a newsflash. Then I was just sort of shocked.
I remember them loosing Skylab. For a week Kevin Gentry and I would play "Find Skylab" with the neighborhood kids. It involved hiding a big cardboard box somewhere in the empty lots and we'd have to find it.
LOL I was that kid that stayed home the extra 15 minutes to watch the shuttle launch (cuz the teachers at school weren't going to let us watch it) and then ran to class all freaked out! I was in 7th grade for that.
But as for my my first newsworthy memory, I think it was John Lennons death in 1980 when I was only 7. Even tho at the time I had no idea of the Beatles or who he really was it was such a huge news event that it stands out.
