So I'm sitting in the new internet cafe on main street, in my jewish neighborhood which over the course of my life has moved from a modern community to being overrun by more and more right leaning folks. I'm sitting in this internet Cafe where I just paid $2 for a normally 65 cents single serving box of fruit loops. and you know what ( Read more... )

Point well taken. Yeah, we have to fight back, but I think it might just be time to leave the 'hood. It's really hard to reason with people who have basically formally renounced their rational logic (if they ever had any).

Where's this cafe? I haven't seen it yet.

G points out that hammers are mentioned as permitted in the Torah (except on Shabbat of course), so we don't need to get rid of them. Now, gas-powered vehicles on the other hand, as well as heavy PVC piping for plumbing, electric light bulbs with potential sharp edges, plastic bags which children can suffocate in, etc... It's a wonder the local supermarket, with the plastic bags it gives away every day, still has certification. We should bring this to the Vaad's attention at once!

There is part of me that is so very tempted to get the Vadd on record as to why there is no kashrut approval. Just not sure what I would do with that, or what good it would do.

To satisfy our curiosity, if nothing else.

If we want to do anything about this from the Rabbinic side, that has to be the first step.
