January knitting post

Jan 31, 2009 11:44

So, of my goals for 2009, which ones have I made progress on in January?
Well, this month I've made some progress on Miranda's Christmas present, and have completed ( two socks. )

Interesting Cowl.

Funnily enough the socks I've just started are Jaywalkers, though mine are top down

Hello, I was referred here by Kauricat. Does your TeX font need a special TeX package, or anything like that? Have you tried it with LaTeX? Is it available for purchase?

(1) The font, as a font, can be used in a (La)TeX document with the usual commands (\font\knit = knit_grid). I'm planning to get a format/package written with macros that do things like adjust the interline spacing, add row numbers gracefully, purlize (make gray) arbitrary symbols, etc., with possibly a few commands useful for someone writing a knitting pattern (e.g. a \startbigpages command so that you could have a few pages with smaller margins, which would allow you to fit in bigger charts).

(2) I haven't tried it with LaTeX yet, but I'm good enough with LaTeX fonts that I don't anticipate it being a big problem. I did LaTeX for years, and did enough weird stuff that I know my way around it (and my library has The LaTeX Companion if I really need help), so I'll probably be able to get it all working ( ... )

(1) Coolio!
(2) I have a linux box with LaTeX on it, so I can test. This is assuming that I remember how to use it enough (or there's good docs).

I would LOVE to help test this!

The font/package is up at http://sites.google.com/site/knittexlatex/.
It's about in shape to be beta-tested; I feel like I need to
test/document it a bit more before I upload it to CTAN.

Please, tell me what you think!

As a beginning knitter and a passionate LaTeX user, I'd love to test your font! Please keep me (and all other readers) updated on that!
