Now you will excuse me but, I thought the democratic party line was that we support Israel. Conversely, I thought the Republican line was that we shouldn't support them as much.. so why is Obama now being criticized by Republican leaders for telling Israel they should return to the 1967 borders ( Read more... )

If the policy is supported by a democrat, it can't actually be the same policy that was supported by a republican. True fact.

Over about the last decade, the democrat and republican positions on Israel have been slowly switching. It's been interesting to watch, and speculate on the reasons why.

And try to ignore the pandering to the Jewish vote. Because that's 3/4 of it. There aren't many of us, but damn do we vote. Especially the more religious ones who are more likely to blindly support Israel.

There are a lot of extreme right Republican politicians who sincerely believe that in order to fulfil Biblical prophecies in regards to the end times the Jews must hold Israel and specifically Jerusalem. Wish I was kidding.
