There is elements of truth to what you say. I have never been the best with tact. I have come to realize that tact often is the best approach to most situations. However when you are tactful and polite, and try to paint a pretty picture for someone about to stumble and they just don't get it or they agree but continue anyway, sometimes you have to give them that "slap in the face". It seems so cruel to others but what is worse? To give a friend a slap in the face, that may hurt now but will save them greater hurt and anguish in the future or to have your soft reposes fall upon deaf ears and watch them suffer for your lack of courage? I agree tact is the more favorable option but when that will not prevail you have to be direct. And to care about someone is to look out for their well being even when they don't. However not to be confused with meddling. I ve been guilty there to. And lets not forget the thing called "tough love". I love my children and they are disciplined when they do wrong. They know they are loved. However sometimes

I do agree with you, when they don't get it sometimes you are forced to resort to that proverbial slap to the face, but the question in my mind still remains, and this goes mainly for adults and friends. When you give them that "slap", how are you going to reassure them that it is in their best interest rather than have them run from you thinking the worst
