For my birthday...

Finally got around to ordering Paizo's Pathfinder core rule book. And along with that...the upcoming Bestiary, and finally the Game Master's book. All for about $90. Thank you Amazon.com!
Of course...I'm going to have to wait a bit, much like danarchy84 . The Bestiary (oddly...since it's a pre-order) is estimated to arrive october 13th, the Core book on the ( Read more... )

I can't wait, either! I still don't care what other people say, I loved the 3.5 system. Unless they do a major improvement for what comes after 4.0, I'd be content to stick with 3.5.

I was well pleased with what they did with 4.0. I do, however, still consider it a completely different game. But I did like it enough that I bought the three core books.

Paizo to the rescue!
Though I admit to being annoyed that a couple of our friends are simply not interested in any thing other than 4.0 now. Just not as connected to atmosphere and flavor as I am I suppose.

Ah well.

If I thought of 4.0 not being D&D then yeah, it's not bad, but when I see it as a replacement for 3.5 then I really do not care for it at all. People say that 3.5 was complicated, and in a sense it is, but whatever games I've run under the system don't always follow the rules to the letter - as any game should be. It makes for a nice template, but unless there's a Rules Lawyer in the group, it shouldn't take precedence over the story itself. Even then I think I'd be more likely to overrule the Rules Lawyer ( ... )

Well...4.0 is throwing out supplements at a prodigious rate..which is what will allow that king of flexibility in character concepts...but that takes time. And money. I've already spent considerable sums on 3.5...which makes me not want to with 4.0.

And so many folk snivel about 3.0/3.5 being complicated. Pish tosh. 1st and 2nd edition were complicated. And I LOVED that about it. 1st edition taught me more words of the english language than school did (it seems like). I'd still run it if there was any one willing to play. Just figuring out thac0 improved your math skills...
And I already know that I'd get a kick out of your dragon game.

Yay, Pathfinder! I have the Bestiary pre-ordered as well, so I'll be getting that when you do. I haven't ordered the Game Mastery Guide yet because I'm limiting myself to buying one thing over the internet at a time so I don't spend too much on stuff.

From what I've seen, the layout of the Bestiary is amazing. There are icons for creature types and climate/terrain which is really handy, and apparently the final product will have one monster per page (though a few will be multiple pages) to make it easy to reference. Plus, they're using the simplified stat blocks that they started using in the later days of 3.5.

And happy birthday! :D

I can hardly wait! Was chatting with Mark last night about it. Even as our most 'rabid' 4.0 convert...he was fairly interested. The dyed in the wool gamer in him can't resist I suppose. At least until he's had a chance to try it out.
