does life emulate Doonesbury, or Doonesbury emulate life?

Step 1: I send postcards to a number of my friends, including Monsieur Padraic J. Burns the infinitely awesome, for whom I have only an antique address that I figure is probably out of date. The one for him is anonymous, and includes the message, "I bet you can't tell who sent this." I think I can get away with this because (a) he's never seen my ( Read more... )

Bah! The question you should be asking is, "How couldn't I back a man who uses such Star Wars analogies?"

Hey Lydia, it's Mark.
First of all, I want you to know that I don't normally read Livejournals on general principles, despite the fact that I find yours consistently entertaining and/or thought-provoking. I'm only here because I haven't heard from you in a while, and wanted to A.) make sure you were still alive and well, and B.) say 'Hi' without waking you up at some ungodly hour with a phone-call.

That said, your rant about alienation was both insightful and timely, insomuch as I have just finished (I hope) a week-and-a-half-long World of Warcraft binge, during which time my only regular human contact was a girl that apparently likes me with whom I have little desire to talk. I'm too tired and insane right now to fully articulate my own feelings on the matter, but I wanted to offer two mini-thoughts that have come to me over the past year and a half or so ( ... )

Hey there, Le Peoples. I can't believe after all this time you still have anxiety about calling me at ungodly hours. You know I'm up late! You know I turn my phone off when I sleep! Bah, foo.

I'm not surprised that my rant struck a chord with you ... I seem to recall discussing my original thoughts on that topic with you at some point around 2 AM on the Concord house couch. You said then that it was interesting and you'd keep thinking about it, so I guess I'm glad (? ... well, at least flattered) that you did.

I'll call you sometime soon and harrass you terribly! I miss you.

(emailed to you too, since you don't check this on general principles, after all)

IF I were Mark - and clearly I am not insomuch as he has already stated that he does not read Livejournals except under the most extreme duress (i.e., boredom) - but IF I were, I would state that I also don't really check my e-mail. Not because of principles; mostly I just never get anything worth reading. I mean 'he'! 'He never gets anything worth reading,' yes.
