what a tale my thoughts could tell

Well, it seems I'm not actually as allergic to cats as I feared before coming here, at least not this particular short-haired cat. Good thing, too, because this cat sleeps in bed with me and is in general quite affectionate; you know, basically a failure as a cat. I sneeze a lot, but vacuuming helps ( Read more... )

oh, also, while you're eating at Indian restaurants, you should make a point of eating at Udupi Palace (University and MLK), which is southern indian food (very different from the usual northern food). I particularly recommend the paneer-peas utthapam or masala dosa. Also good is Naan 'n Curry. Definitely the best Indian food value in Berkeley. A lot of people also like Vik's (4th and allston, near the University freeway entrance, take the 51 bus), which is more of a chaat place (and only open in the afternoon). Breads of India is a good splurge.

Also, unless you hate Ethiopean food, you should go to Cafe Colucci (Telegraph and Alcatraz), get pizza at the Cheeseboard (or just cheese at the Cheeseboard), the fried mushrooms at Barney's, and the chocolate mousse at Le Theatre.

OK, now I'm homesick.

I have eaten at Naan & Curry twice now. That's actually where the hippie bathroom photograph above is from. I loove it. I also managed to hit the Cheeseboard, which is remarkably close to where I am, and amused me with its communal ownership. As for the others, I will convince my visitors this weekend to attend with me. Thanks!

It's good to hear you're keeping yourself entertained (though really, I think you could do that regardless of the surroundings). Man oh man, does that seem like a hippie place. Does it ever feel to you like people on the extremes of the spectrum live in a sort of fantasy world?

However, to play the part of your editor, I must point out that you should correct the sentence that goes, "There's also so many Indian food restaurants in this place..."
