Karen Blixen (pen name Isak Dinesen) is a figure I never knew much about until my Internet crush cooper_korman quoted heavily from her 1934 book, Seven Gothic Tales. Things that are widely quoted are so unoriginal. And is that one from Seven Gothic Tales or Out of Africa?

Should I ask which is your favourite? Or am I revealing too much when I say I don't know?

I really loved "The Old Chevalier". I connected mostly with two stories in that volume, and "The Dreamers" only partly got me, but "The Old Chevalier" really got me. Frustrated love and prostitution, yum.

My mother is a total raving Karen Blixen fangirl. I've been to her estate in Denmark at least once; my mother has gone many times, as well as interviewed her housekeeper and other persons who knew Blixen well.
