Freecycling a bunch of tawdry, bodice-ripper romance novels, I found myself being nostalgic. One of them had a price sticker on the spine from The Book Cellar at RDU Airport, where I bought it for a dollar on the return trip from Grandma's wedding in 2003. I don't think I want to get rid of it- not because it's such a great book, but simply ( Read more... )

Can do!!!! I'm actually picking up a bag of 21 paperbacks tomorrow, which promises to be full of bodice-rippers. The thing is, I read them once, and then they've lost all appeal, so they just take up space. lol

We should totally get to cycling books among each other... we go through books like water. I just gave 4 boxes of books to the CHKD.. that I bought FROM the CHKD. But hell.. you can't beat a 25 cent book.

When I worked at the local library, I spent many an hour entertaining my work mates by reading the back of the romances. Johanna Lindsey was a big name, more respectable than most. My favorites were the stories that mix the times or technology. Beautiful programer, who is creating a viking game falls in love with lead viking warrior, who becomes real. Or straight-laced office woman decides to go sky diving only to have her instructor be the dashing rake, who broke her heart so many years ago: as they jump, they are swept up by a tornado and whisked back to the 1880's wild west. But I read the fluff, too. Mysteries and oddball things, like Christopher Moore.
