My travel 2012 saga -post #2 Jibcon

Apr 28, 2012 23:35

So after very little sleep last night, I decided after morning bath that I would grab breakfast at 8am and then hit the fitness centre in the hopes that a long walk on the treadmill and a swim would help me sleep tonight.

I headed for the restaurant (breakfast is included in the hotel fee), I was advised that as I was part of Jibcon, I could get breakfast with the group down the hall. I had brought my documents for registration as I knew it started at 8. That was the start of the queuing for the day. There was a line of about 10 people who believed they had to register prior to getting breakfast. Well, the staff was not ready for registration and I wanted a coffee very badly!!! I have to give the all staff credit because they have quite the challenging job and from what I saw, did very well. I supposed the more one does this, the better one gets.

Someone had the wherewithal to ask if we needed to wait to register before getting our breakfast to which they said no, we could go ahead although why that information wasn't posted or why one of the staff didn't advise the line of the same was a little irritating. Bear in mind that I have had little sleep and am not usually irritated by these small things. i just really needed a coffee but really not a big issue.

I sat with three women from Belgium who were quite happy to have me sit with them. I told them about the location shoots I've had the pleasure of seeing and when they asked if the cast & crew minded that, told them how lovely the actors and crew were as long as we were respectful. Turns out I still have the pictures I took out in Fort Langley last August and if I run into them again tomorrow, I'll show them.

So breakfast over, the plan was to register which honestly was a breeze but then, there was no line at 9 am. The fitness centre was packed so I put off going until early afternoon and yes, I did go - walked for 45 minutes and swam for 15.

At 2:45, I figured it was time to head downstairs as the opening ceremonies was to start at 3:00. The din of voices as I hit the main floor was unbelievable, a din that was in no language I understood and it looked like entirely disorganized chaos with mobs of fans in the corridors. I have an issue with crowds, being vertically challenged as I feel myself choked figuratively by them. It didn't help that there was much pushing (personal space has a different meaning outside of North America I have found), butting in line and generally shoving people (read me) aside to get through the crowds with not one 'excuse me', 'pardon me' or apology for shoving. I am clearly too Canadian in my expectations and need to remember that I'm not in Kansas anymore. As a friend said, I need to go with the flow.

But all of the above really were minor things (including the crazy lineup later for autographs) because in spite of minor delays, things really went off very well.

The panels were great and really, that was what I am here for. I get so much entertainment from these conventions. They really are a gathering of like minds who love listening to the awesome actors talk Supernatural and other side issues. I won't go into too much detail about the panel contents from day 1 because they have been summarized brilliantly here - http://www.tvovermind.com/supernatural/supernatural-jib-convention-misha-collins-richard-speight-sebastian-roche-and-more/140756/

I will add a few details though, my added comments and feel of the experience. I apologize for the lack of pictures. I do have lots but have limited up/download wifi abilities. Will try & resolve that soon.

Richard started the day and was as warm and funny (and no not fuzzy - the beard's all gone) as he usually is. I personally loved his comment that the convention was all downhill from his panel. He chose to word it that way rather than stating his usual 'we all know who you are here for.' Haha, the man is astute (and yes morganoconner I know you ARE there for Richard.) He is charming and again funny especially when I got his autograph and he called me young lady. Maybe I should be offended? Nah.

Sebastian was still Sebastian. Completely irreverent full of double entendre, cursing and comments bordering on porn which truthfully, while fun and shocking at first, gets boring. I saw several people leave the room, some with kids in tow. I didn't find him quite as rude as the prior instance when I'd sat through a panel of his because at least this time he actually answered questions posed to him. Sebastian is nothing if not predictable.

Misha was fantastic but then, I may be biased. ;) He didn't get sucked into (okay, maybe the wrong phrasing) the Sebastian pit this time although seeing him pick up Sebastian and carry him off stage was priceless. He did throw out a few curses but mostly f-bombs. He was amusing and diverted actual answers as he always does but I can't help but adore him. When asked about his favorite Castiel line one of which was "I learned it from the pizza man," after the crowd roared its approval, he conceded to us. Lol! His description of the GISHWES scavenger hunt item, the bacon dress, was almost pornographic in nature with descriptions both verbal and bodily movements of grease melting into the various women's bodies as bacon does melt at body temperature. The man had everyone laughing as he does. There is nothing quite like the twinkle in his eyes and the ill- suppressed grin on his face. Did I mention I adore him?

Stayed for the Rob Benedict/Brock Kelly panel which was amusing mostly because of Rob. I stayed long enough to see Jason Manns and Steve Carlson arrive nd say a few words but then the Misha autographs were up and as much as I had told myself that I didn't need more autographs, I just wanted to see Misha up close and personal for the all if 30 seconds one tends to get. It was worth it though because we chatted about my trip which he seemed genuinely interested about. Ah, Misha. Never change.

That was the end of the day at which time I stole to my room, ordered room service and fell into my bed hoping for a full night of slumber which I did achieve. Saturday report to follow.
