2010 Music Mix

Dec 31, 2010 12:50

Stealing this idea from terrorcandy - I went through my journal and picked a song to represent each month of the last year, making a music mix for everyone.

January
Firefly- "Inara's Suite"This was the month I finished my East Asian Studies Thesis, nicknamed Inara.  This was also the only month in the first half of the year that I wasn't stressed and jumping off the wall, so the calm instrumental fits.

February
The Hush Sound- "Not Your Concern"
It's all sinkin' in, I'd probably just swim if I could but I can't so
I'm just hangin' on and on... Before I knew where I would be in September, 2010 was the year of me being stressed out and having panic attacks.  Do not live by my example in the first half of the year, it was bad.  Plus I was slowly realizing that I was almost done with Bryn Mawr.

March
Yellowcard- "Believe"
Everything is gonna be alright
Everything is gonna be alright
Everything is gonna be alright
Be strong believe
I found out in March that I would be attending IUC come the fall.  After all the insanity and worrying, everything would be alright.

April
Lia- "My Soul, Your Beats"
Miokutta (I watched it fade)
Te wo futta (I waved my hand)
Arigatou to (Thank you)

April was really leading to the end of Bryn Mawr, and the start of saying goodbye.

May
Green Day- "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)"
Another turning point;
a fork stuck in the road.
Time grabs you by the wrist;
directs you where to go.

Ever since high school I've associated this song with graduation.

June
Lucas Carpenter- "Dreamer's Working 9 to 5"
Well the years go by
And the debt piles up
Pouring down into a half empty cup
Sick of every day

I started my internship at Canaday in June, and it was the first time I had a 9 to 5 job.  Both ups and downs for it, but it was something to do while waiting to leave for Japan.

July
Matchbox Twenty- "How Far We've Come"
It's gone, gone, baby, it's all gone
There is no one on the corner and there's no one at home
It was cool cool, it was just all cool
Now it's over for me and it's over for you

Working at Canaday post-graduation was a very strange experience.  It also gave me a chance to really say good-bye to Bryn Mawr for good.  This song is also svz_insanity 's fault, since she was playing an awesome HP fan video with this song back in July on Helen's ipad during a blackout. XD

August
The Ataris- "Takeoffs and Landings"
Passport, customs, carry on, remember
To shut off all of your electronic devices
Fell asleep on Tuesday woke up Monday afternoon
I slept right through your International Date Line

The end of August was my flight to Japan.  Only the second time I've ever flown internationally, and the first time I've traveled anywhere by myself.

September
Scott Simons- "Start of Something"
All in all the only thing I've learned
Is not to lose myself around the sharpest turns
I'm not thinking as clearly as I think I should
But this could be the start of something good
September was filled with firsts- my first apartment, my first day at a new school, my first time cooking for myself.
October
FLOW- "BRAND-NEW DAY"
Hello my way Hello my life itsudemo (always)
Hello my way Hello my life sou kao wo agete (show that face)
Ready go!! Shiny Brand-new day!!
Everyday in Japan has been an adventure.  In October I started really getting used to everything here.
November
Brother Bear- "Boku no tabi (On My Way)"

Boku wa tabi wo shitteiru (I am going on a journey)
Kibou ni wo afurrette (My dreams are overflowing)
I traveled to Kyoto in November, and it was one of the coolest experiences of my life.  It was also the first time I've done a major trip by myself.
December
Brunch- "Imagine"

wi do a rae do eopt go da gat eun ha neur a rae (There isn't up or down, everyone under the same sky)
kkum sog e paradise neo wa na ui paradis e(The paradise from our dreams. That's our paradise!)

Japan has been more than I've imagined.  I absolutely love it here.  The longer I'm here, the luckier I feel. 本当にパラダイスよ。
