Visiting Friends

So yesterday I set out on the much delayed visit to m'friend across the "border" in Yorkshire.I have been trying to get to see her ever since she moved, but every time life intervened in some way or another.
Anyway, this time there were no put offs, so I set out in glorious sunshine for her new house. I roughly knew where it was since I have been ( Read more... )

Most navigation devices have settings like "shortest route", "fastest route", and "avoid highways" - it sounds as if yours may have been set to the latter. We have one, but I find some of its idiosyncracies confusing - for one thing, if you don't like the route it's set you on, and you turn onto another road to try a different way, it will spend several minutes trying to route you back to its original choice, before finally giving up and re-calculating a new routing from where you actually are. But they're very helpful when you haven't a clue :-)

¡Buena suerte en su examen!

Yep! I think it is set on "shortest route" and i havent sussed out how to change that yet. Me and new technology take time to get to know each other, which is why I've been loaned this "to practice". It was quite fun actually - just surprising - to find myself wandering about the countryside, passing fields, little lakes and villages that I didnt know were there. I have realised that since it is a woman's voice I ought to call it Tamara Tom Tom and not Timothy (unless of course it is transgender :)

From the way you describe it, I think your device was set to "avoid highways". Do you have the instructions for it? It really pays to read them. If not, keep hitting buttons until you find something called "Options" or "Preference" or "Settings", with a lot of sub-headings. While you're in there, you may also be able to change the voice to one that sounds male, in which case it could very well be Timmy, not Tammy, Tom-Tom :-D
