Konami is just completely without direction right now.
Ever since Silent Hill 3 they've been grasping for straws there. Silent Hill 4 was a non-SH game clearly retrofitted to be one. Then after that they started outsourcing the series to various developers to a cacophony of results.
Metal Gear Rising went into development hell at Kojima's studio and has since been outsourced to Platinum.
Judging by the PSP and DS games they have no idea what they want to do or are doing with the Suikoden franchise.
They've never quite figured out what they want to do with Castelvania on consoles.
As for contra, gradius, and new IP: *shrug* And don't even get me started on Sdatcher!! Sdatcher!? Seriously!? Kojima and Suda team up for that!? Is this the real life!?
I hope they're doing better with their Japan-only content.
