So apparently LiveJournal explained what had been going on the past few days. A little miffed that they didn't tell us sooner (as then maybe they could have stopped a chunk of the communities I'm part of from wide-spread panic), but I'll survive

I think that if LJ had announced, prior to them going on their pedo/incest/childwhatnot hunting spree, that the communities that should have legitimately been purged would have changed their interests or whatever to prevent themselves from being deleted. I also think that if Brad was here, it wouldn't have been this messy. The SixApart dude was the one who did all this, not the LJ people, even though they're now "one company" and fall under the same umbrella. I do agree with you that before going to external sites such as firefox news, google news, cnet, etc. they should have released a statement or SOMETHING to the LJ community. The worst part is that LJ is suffering from something SixApart did, not LJ themselves.
I think a lot of these people that were not involved in the slightest in journal purging/community deletion are milking this problem as much as they can in hopes to get free services or something as "repayment" for SixApart's wrongdoings.

And yes, it bothers me that people are using Disney/PotC to be their anthem.
