CHARACTER INFORMATION-
Canon Character and Series: Freya Crescent, Final Fantasy IX
In-Game Name: Freya Crescent
Age: 24
Gender: Female
Position & Ship: Boatswain, the 4423

Appearance: Freya Crescent is quite unusual to look at. She is a demihuman, or as most people would describe her as, a humanoid rat. She stands upright on two legs, and is covered in light grey fur. Everything about her is slender: her frame, her limbs, and her tail all look sickly thin, but it is, however, perfectly healthy for her species. She has shoulder length fine hair - one bang covers her left of her pale grey eyes. For clothing, she wears the traditional outfit of the dragoon - a heavy red coat made of waterproof materials with a matching helmet shaped to resemble a dragon's head with metal dragon wings bolted onto each side. However, she does not wear the helmet except into battle. Underneath the coat, however, she wears more normal clothes. There is an old, tattered orange cloth ribbon tied near the tip of the tail. No one knows why it's there or how long it's there, and when asked, about it, Freya will simply change the subject.

Personality: Freya tends to be quiet and solemn, a mostly serious person whose past has greatly shaped her current personality. She is very organized and methodical, doing things with precision and care. However, she does know when to let go once in a while. If Freya is in a good mood, she will often join her shipmates for drinks and games - ones that involve gambling seem to be her favorite. There, she will laugh, joke, tell stories, and have an all out good time.

Outside of these fun times, however, Freya is mostly about serious business, though she will still find time to relax. When alone, she has a tendency to be gloomy and dislikes being disturbed during these spells. However, she takes everything in stride, as hope keeps her burning bright as a person.

She inspects the ship often on her duties. Her crew mates can hear her approach by the sound of her claws clicking against the floor as she walks.

Abilities/Weapons: Freya's most notable ability is her ability to jump to unbelievable heights, especially if one looks at her thin legs. This is a trait shared by her entire species, but she has undergone training to reach the maximum potential of her jumping. Unlike most Dragoons who attack by holding onto their spears while descending down onto their opponents, Freya's method is to throw her spear down at the enemy, then retrieving it once she lands, sometimes scratching at the enemy with the claws on her feet for additional damage.

As a Dragon Knight, Freya also has access to special skills that have been passed down from generation of generation of Dragon Knight. These abilities have a wide range of effects and uses, such as draining magical energy from an enemy and sharing it with teammates and much much more.

There are times, particularly if under pressure, Freya will enter what is called a trance. Adrenaline surges through her body and her already impressive jump ability becomes boosted even further. She can jump three times as high as usual, and sends a rain of spears down at the enemy. However, this ability is limited and does not appear often, nor can Freya manually activate it.

As already mentioned, Freya uses a spear as a weapon: the traditional weapon of the Dragoon. She has a unique way of holding it, the base in her left hand (she's left handed) and with the blade facing away from the enemy. To attack, she runs up to her opponent, hops, and spins in the air, using the momentum and spinning force to drive it into her opponent. It is yet another way of utilizing her amazing jumping to her advantage.

Weaknesses: Freya is quite limited by her environment. If she's fighting in a small space, particularly one with a low ceiling, her jump attack is lost as a potential means of offense. A small space makes it difficult for her to dodge and run around, which is her standard means of both defense and offense.

Personality wise, Freya has been deeply shaped by her past. She is searching for something, and hope she will find this something is what keeps her going. If she were to lose this hope, she would lose everything, unless something steps in to give her new hope.

History: Freya's tale is a sad one.

Freya hails from Erealia, from a group of rat people who call themselves the Burmecians. No one is sure why they are called this, but many suspect it's derived from the homeland of the rat people, but no one is sure, not even the Burmecians themselves. The Burmecians work as guards for one of the nobility of the country in exchange for a place to stay. They trained as Dragon Knights, also known as Dragoons and served as the elite forces on the noble's personal army. Freya is one of these Knights. Since she was young, Freya had wanted nothing more than to be the best Dragon Knight.

Freya underwent training at sixteen to become a Dragon Knight, and by twenty, she was officially a Dragon Knight. There she served loyally and dutifully under her lord. It was also around this time she met Fratley, a fellow Dragon Knight two years her senior. After a two year courtship they finally became an "official" couple. The Burmecians happily gave them their blessing. All seemed to be going well.

Or so Freya thought. She was waiting for Fratley to propose to her. And at age twenty-three, he did...but he wasn't proposing a marriage. He was proposing a journey. Alone. Into the main Reial continent. He was vague about the reasons why he was leaving, but Freya supported his decision, despite her immense and obvious distress. Fratley left that very night, in order to lessen the pain: on both Freya and himself.

Time passed. Freya would receive a letter from Fratley every couple of weeks for three months. She was very anxious, waiting for his return. Then suddenly, the letters stopped. The Burmecians feared the worst, that Sir Fratley was dead. But Freya did not believe it. She could not. Fratley had to be out there somewhere. Alive. And so she too left on a journey of her own: to find Fratley. The Burmecians were uneasy about her leaving. They had already lost Fratley, a fine Dragoon, but to lose Freya would mean the loss of another of their great Dragon Knights. However, none of them could change her mind, not even Freya's parents. They reluctantly let her leave.

Freya first crossed into the mainland, entering Vohemar in the City of Bydan. There, she followed Fratley's trail, going from city to city, often crossing the border between Vohemar and Ivonia, never knowing how far away he was. It eventually became clear that merely chasing after him would never work. She would always be at least one step behind him. She would have to try something different.

While in the small town of Trewe, mulling over her limited options in a local bar, she overheard gossip that the 4423 was in town and were taking passengers. That would be Freya's new method of search, riding along the 4423 and hoping to intercept Fratley somewhere. So, she boarded thet famous ship, first as a passenger. A few weeks later, Freya felt that she was leeching off the ships hospitality and offered her help, getting hired onto the crew as a Boatswain.

She is currently still working on the 4423 and still searching for Fratley, the man she loves. But the chances she'll ever find him grow slimmer by the day...
