i guess it's because it keeps us pining for an upgrade on our own local politics. i disagree with the Republican party as the party of ideas. in terms of advancing ideas, it's the Democrats for me. In terms of whether i'm going to be a democrat or republican - i still think a mix is the best. if a candidate can go across aisles - that would be best. and that i think is what both mccain and obama have. so should they emerge as competitors, it will be very very interesting.

i'm for the democrat notion of advancement of ideas, but i'm more for the republican values. :)

and regarding your section on the islamic tension, i watched something similar sa TV! I'll post it on my blog!!! :)

Haha. Hey, I became interested in the US presidential race because of your blog! ^^

Personally, I think I'm more supportive of the Democrats' issues like improving social services for medical care and housing and paying attention to the concerns of the poor and ending the Iraq war, among others. But I prefer the Republican way--empowering private entities and encouraging entrepreneurship and economic progress (At least that's how I understand the Republican way, and I know I'm no expert on both parties ^^). Social issues and business interests need not clash, as the rise of social businesses has demonstrated. And I do agree with you that a mix of both Republican and Democrat insights is the way to go.
