Our final day, alas. We got up and had breakfast one last time, then we were sent to San Christobal where we visited a museum discussing the history of the Galapagos Islands. It had interesting displays not only on the human history but also about the animals as well. After we finished with the museum we headed into town to shop around and wait while our suitcases were transferred from the ship to the airport.
I bought a calendar and a nice journal book with photos in between the blank pages. I'll probably use it for classes in the fall. I also bought some magnets.
After about an hour and half we were taken to the airport. I finally got some photos of the mosaic sculptures in front of the airport.
Alas, we did not actually see any orcas on this trip, but I'm considering a trip to Seattle at some point to go on an orca watching cruise.
Finally we got on the plane and left the Galapagos Islands. I said goodbye to the islands, and I was sad to leave because it had been such an amazing experience.
We headed to Guyaquil where we would wave goodbye to our cruise friends Billy and Stephanie (they were headed on to Macchu Picchu). After refueling and picking up some more people the plane headed to Quito where we spent the night. Quito was once again somewhat uncomfortable because of the altitude. My mom and I, exhausted from the trip, passed out around 7pm (we had to get up at 3am for the flight to Houston.) The flight the next day went fine, though my mother missed her flight in Houston and had to do a series of short airport hops to get back to Knoxville. My flights went fine and I was glad to be home finally, and then I slept quite a bit for a couple of days afterward.
