Holy Cow!

Thanks to Knottie Rachel, I now have 25-pounds of freshly butchered cow in my freezer.

After reading the book The Omnivore's Dilemma recently, she decided to start eating only locally-grown, grass-fed, all-natural beef. She invited all NY-area meat-eaters to join her in a "cow pool" where we'd each commit to part of a cow in 25-lb increments. ( Read more... )

How many cow farmers are there in NYC? They must hang out with the wild turkey we saw wandering around Battery Park.

No seriously, that's an awesome deal! Jake and I want to get an extra freezer so we can buy meat in bulk.

LOL, the farmers are all in Westchester, just north of the city.

You don't really need an extra freezer, unless you plan to buy a whole cow. We have a regular size freezer that's already half-full of frozen soups, stews, and ice cream, and we still managed to fit 25-lbs of cow in there. Remember that it's all already butchered into ready-to-cook cuts, so it's not like you get one big slab of meat.
