Relief

After a couple of weeks of some very dissappointing/depressing news from those in the comics industry, it's nice to see that Ty Templeton remains as awesome as everAlso? After having dropped Ultimate Spidey a while back (the post-Ultimatum reboot confused me, so I decided not to deal with it) I am so totally picking this up. Here's hoping they ( Read more... )

Hooray!

Also, to note, I apologize for not responding to your email. I didn't get it until yesterday (right before bed). It seems like hotmail is blocked at work (which is odd, because bigger timewasters - like LJ - and most other email programs are fine, it's just hotmail) and I still don't have access to the internet from my computer at home. I'll try to talk to Jess and get you a reply tonight or tomorrow, but I will say that September's going to be tough for free weekends. We're going to be in Florida at the end of the month, and Marc and Jolie are coming down at some point.
I'll get more detailed in email, just didn't want you to think I was ignoring you!

Yeah, I could actually understand some of the outrage if it were in the main continuity. You get attached to and identify with a character and then they kill them off and bring in someone new, you can't help but have a little bit of irritation no matter who that someone is. (Hell, when the Bills inevitably leave Buffalo, I will have to hate wherever the team ends up on principle, and I know it's irrational - lol, football.) So I can get that level (not enough to warrant the bile, but I wouldn't be entirely bothered by people who took issue with it) but like you say, it's Ultimate. Peter Parker's still there, three times a month, we didn't lose him, we just get the opportunity for brand new stories with a new character who will bring a new dynamic. How is that not awesome ( ... )

Actually, if I remember correctly, the original idea behind the Ultimate universe was that it would eventually replace 616 as the main universe. I'm glad they didn't end up going that route, but I'm not sorry they tried, since we did get some awesome stories (though admittedly some terrible ones too) that they wouldn't have done in 616.

You're right, though. If you just hear "they killed off spiderman and replaced him!" with no context, I think the knee-jerk reaction is going to be some anger at it. Context matters, people! And the worst deaths are the ones that don't get the big fanfare, as you said. DC's had a really bad habit of killing of hordes of heros off-panel in the last few years, which is the worst way to do it. Bleh.

I don't have muhc to add except to say that that page is wonderful. XD
