DISNEY!

So! We went to Walt Disney World last week for the nth time, because I am perpetually a 10 year old, and I doubt I’ll ever actually “grow up" at this point. I’m also cool with that ( Read more... )

I'm going to say right now that these pictures and things made go all squee-fangirl! I was sitting here giggling and grinning at seeing things I saw not so long ago- and you know that parade you have pictures of? I think we saw part of a test run of it or something on our trip! I recognize that big gift-like-shaped float. And it wasn't on the schedule; it just sort of happened. So like I said, I wonder if they were testing it out or something? I knew you were going to love the new Star Tours- not that I ever saw the old one, mind you. But I loved it so much I went on it a second time. :) Funny thing is, both times our first planet was Hoth.... First time on, the second planet was Naboo (underwater with the Gunguns) and second time I believe it was Corusant (not sure if I spelled that right; either way, cloud city). And best of all, on the first time through, Mom came up as the Rebel spy. That just about made her trip. :) You couldn't see the construction work on the new castle, when we were there. So that got me all ( ... )

Haha! Disney geek-out should be shared by all, after all! :D

It wouldn't surprise me if they were testing them out as you thought. They look pretty general, so I bet they use them for a lot of big events, and if they hadn't used them in a while, they probably wanted to make sure all the mechanisms were still working before the halloween party. That makes good sense to me!

I'm jealous! I was hoping to go to Hoth in Star Tours, haha! Well, at least I have that to look forward to the next time. None of us ended up the rebel spy, but Jess still picked up the "I am the rebel spy" t-shirt because it's awesome. XD

Yeah, I am seriously excited for the new Fantasyland. It might be a lot more worth visiting now! And high five on the haunted mansion! God, I love that ride. I really hope Guillermo Del Toro is still planning to make a new Haunted Mansion movie, there's so much potential there. (Especially if you go with the French version, Phantom Manor, which actually has a full story.)

WHOO! Disney! XD

We made sure Mom got the Rebel Spy shirt, and it's now one of her favorite ones. :) She wore it on the way home on our last day, and it got so many compliments. Me, I had to get one with Yoda on it. :) Hee hee, I had to go on the Haunted Mansion twice, too. :) I'd heard rumors of a new movie, yes. I never saw the first one, but I've gathered that's no loss. Apparently the makers couldn't decide whether it should be silly or spooky, tried to do both, and got neither. :P But Del Toro is a director who seems well-versed in atmosphere, and I think he could really do something with the concept. To get the right vibe, atmosphere is what you need.

It really is. And Del Toro has shown repeatedly as well that he knows how to balance humor and horror without cheapening either, and I think that's exactly what a Haunted Mansion movie needs.

Awesome on the shirt. It was a brilliant move to make those, and just a great update to the ride in general. :D I ended up getting an awesome Halloween shirt...and I was lucky I found it. They were selling out of some of the Halloween stuff - in September! Sheesh, I think they underestimated the demand of these things. XD

Awesome! Thanks for the account and pics and vids!

I agree, the pirates/mansion section of the parade was the coolest. (Also, Headless Horseman cameo beforehand? Badass.)

Captain EO is back. Interesting.

Is that Maleficent display all made from legos?

Did you all intend to go down for Halloween decor or was that a bonus?

"Did you all intend to go down for Halloween decor or was that a bonus?"

It was a little of both, actually. We were looking at the times of the year when there were the lightest crowds and realized that we'd been there for Christmas but never Halloween. Since they do lots of awesome holiday stuff, it seemed like it'd be fun. It was a good call, I'd say. :D

I'm a little sad that I couldn't get the Headless Horseman footage edited into the parade video, but it might be for the better anyway, since exporting it would've likely lowered the video's quality. But a girl can dream... XD

Yeah, Captain Eo being there really surprised me, though in thinking about all the big names who had a hand in making it, I guess it's not terribly surprising. It was a blast from the past, though, haha!

And yes indeed, that Maleficent is made entirely out of legos. :D The lighting wasn't very good then I took that, since the sun was heading down, but you can see some of the bricks a bit better on the horse. Awesome construction!

I haven't been to disney land since I was six! I don't even have a basis upon which to be nostalgic.. but reading all of this was so inspiring.. Now I have this big 'Disney is Great!!' feeling and I wanna go to an amusement park..

Haha! The geekery spreads! I love Disney, they put so much effort into everything and pay so much attention to the little details. It sounds so corny to say, but it really does feel kind of magical when you're there.
Actually, I always kind of wanted to visit the one in Japan, since I hear their Tower of Terror is very different: based on a 1920's New York hotel rather than a 1930's California one, and without any connection to the Twilight Zone (which apparently didn't air in Japan, so there would be no frame of reference). So I always wondered how the story differed. Though I also wanted to go to the one in Paris for their version of the Haunted Mansion because I am in fact a giant dork. Haha!

Just for the record, the comment about magic doesn't sound corny, at least to me. I feel the same way. So do those who introduced me (you have Adam and my sister in law, Stacie, to thank for that). It's a place built on and around the idea of dreams, and I think that permeates the entirety of the experience. They take you into another world, and if you let it immerse you, you can in fact believe in magic while you're there. So see? Not corny at all. :)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets that reaction. It's really the only way to describe it though. Especially in Disney World, where you're pretty much cut off from anything non-Disney. You really feel like you're in another world.
