This looks cute. :) The art style reminds me a lot of Calvin and Hobbes. Especially in the shaping of the faces; even more especially, with the open mouth in profile. Looks just like Calvin, that. Just thought I would mention this. :)
It's funny you say that, because running at the same time as Mini Marvels was another book called "Franklin Richards, Son of a Genius". In the same way that Mini marvels was styled from Peanuts, Franklin Richards was clearlystyled after Calvin and Hobbes. (As evidenced by those links.)
I thought it was kind of funny that that was the case and wondered if they'd put out any other books styles after famous strips - Pet Avengers in a Garfield style? Doctor Strange as the Wizard of Id? Hahaha!
For the record, I've heard really good things about that Franklin Richards book, too, I just haven't picked it up myself yet.
See, it was more the second one that had the "Calvin and Hobbes" vibe, to me. But you pose an interesting question there, about styles. It may be fun to look up some stuff and see what may be out there. :)
I would definitely recommend it. It's a lot of fun and I never felt like it was talking down to me. If you ever want to check it out, let me know, I wouldn't mind loaning it. :D (I think everyone should read it, haha!)
I've been considering getting Franklin Richards Son of a Genius for some time, I loved what I read of it. It was Calvin and Hobbes, but with ROBOTS and SCIENCE! (And I don't like Reed Richards, so that should tell you something.)
Yeah Super Hero comics are actually really perfect for all-ages stuff! It can still be fun and compelling without really sacrificing much, I mean they're already brightly colored caricatures. It allows it to be a good read for kids, but a have lot of subtle in-jokes aimed at adults who read comics as well. A perfect blend that proved that you don't need to be "adult" to be funny FOR adults (which I've heard a lot of people argue before...I usually stop talking to those people once they bring out that chestnut, though.)
(And I'm sorry for the delay on the replies to these. I claim the excuse of sickness, as I wasn't feeling good this past few days.)
