Looks neat!

One minor comment on your review, though - I though Houdini was actually pretty well known for being a skeptic towards spiritualists... at least, that's what Wikipedia says...

He was pretty all around fascinated with it from what I remember reading, because he wanted to contact his dead mother, but it's been ages since I read up on it, so I'm sure you're right.

The skepticism and debunking were spurred by his fascination. He was hoping to find the real thing. The falling out with Arthur Conan Doyle happened after they visited a medium and Houdini objected to the "spirit" of his mother speaking to him in English instead of Yiddish.
He did work out a plan with his wife to see if he could cross over after he died, but the details were so public, they were easy to fake.

Ah ha! So that's what it was. Looks like you were right, Jeb, and yet I don't feel too bad about getting it wrong. I haven't read about Houdini in years, so I got it mostly. I really do need to do the research before I shoot my mouth (fingers?) off though. Haha!

I think the arbitrary animal people thing only bothers me when there are humans there too, because it just raises too many questions for me. Are they an off-shoot or something? Are they mutants? What's going on? When everyone's an animal, then that's just how that world rolls and I don't really have a problem with it, but humans are pretty big jerks and it's hard for me to imagine no one even mentioning it. It's a VERY minor nitpick, though, you'd think for all the things I can suspend my disbelief for that wouldn't be a problem ( ... )

I'm really, really hoping for a second book of the Intrepid EscapeGoat. I all kinds of enjoyed this first one, and I'd really like to see more. Maybe we can explore the world a bit more, yes, yes?

Why a goat anyway? Are goats well known for their escape prowess? I mean, I know they're all kinds of nimble, but not really escape artists. Why not a lizard? XD
