Well, let's see - Alaska had a governor who was more concerned with running for V.P., funneling oil money into huge payouts for each citizen (wtf?) and giving Pro-Life/Right Wing speeches in the continental U.S. than taking care of poor Alaskans.
What the Alaska State Government did in this issue was negligent, what the federal government is now doing is A-freaking-moral on a whole new level. Palin didn't really have much of a direct hand in this fiasco, and yes, we actually have a Lt. Governor. So yes, we have people running the State... not that I have a great deal of faith in politicians at this moment though.
Speaking from the POV of someone who is working with federal government regulators "right now"
No, the last 8 years was amoral.
What is happening now is is things are getting fixed.
Bush left a mess that is beyond comprehension, but it is getting fixed.
But you can't just walk in and straighten the mess out.
Regulations have to be written back in correctly, people have to be hired and trained to do the jobs correctly to replace all the people Bush got rid of.

I have to agree with you. This whole issue about any aspect of health care shouldn't be about left and right politics. It should be about everyone coming together and helping out. Why the hell should people with different disabilities have to suffer because of power whores in the government going around unchecked for years just doing what ever the hell they want? Completely insane!

Priorities.
And yes it is about left politics that want government to be there for the portion of the population who "can't" take care of themselves and the population who are getting rich off the rest of us to take teh lead in paying for it.
The wealthy who can afford to pay a higher share, think like Scrooge and they vote Republican. Who scream about ballooning government and want government reduced. This is part of parcel of what they want to be gone.
Yes it is insane, that anyone with a concious would vote republican ever.
This is what happens when there is not direct responsibility for misdeeds and when there is a lack of competition. All things considered, they will probably come out AHEAD financially because of this fiasco rather than have any real responsibly long-term for what happened

What is the alternative?dragonsoracleJuly 17 2009, 02:25:18 UTC
"But then, what is the alternative?"
How about some enforcement and making them "direct responsibility for misdeeds" and implement some sort of consequence for failure to preform that impacts the agency and not the people that it was supposed to help.
Specifically, start documenting these instances on administrators & decision makers employee files, review their competency in their current jobs, and maybe remove them from their position if they are deemed irresponsible for executing the duties of their post and failure for serving the best interest for the community.
Maybe even have a small federal services review team step in and start evaluating their processes and conditions up close and personal with enforcement authority to instigate changes as deemed necessary until the agency has proved that they can responsibly and reliably handle their duties in the future.
There are always other solutions than just throwing money at a problem, going further into debt, or ignoring it outright.

Wouldn't that be nice, of course that doesn't change the current predicament. Besides, this is the government we are talking about. When are they going to honestly assess their own flaws without making that assessment process as big or a bigger problem then the flaws themselves?

As one of the PCA's on the caregiving end of it for over 5yrs now I have seen how the system has failed, how it has gotten worse over the years not only for the clients but as the employees who are giving the care

Obviously you have not been paying attention, The tea Baggers have been trying to explain it to you.
This government ballooning thing must stop.
We must reduce the size of government, cause the Tea baggers are tired of paying higher taxes.
And these people who can't take care of themselves just need to die off and deplete the surplus population.
Clear now?
{sarcasm mode off}
The State of Alaska is a microcosm of how Republicans think government is supposed to work...er...uh...not work.
Deregulation is the Republican mantra.
This is an excellent example of why Government must be fixed. So when you hear these morons shouting about socialism, think about those folks dying.
