I love reading your journal - one can always find interesting notes in it. :)

Totally agree with you - kids can make a person's blood boil. Just yesterday I was a tour guide and while I was telling my group the history of our local castle, a kid kept interrupting me by making funny noises. I told him to get up and come to me, so that I could use him as a breathing decoration. He mumbled a bit, but obeyed. And since he felt uncomfortable in front of everyone, he kept his mouth shut.

Thank you, and don't get me wrong, I love kids, I even have one of my own. But having kids dart out in front of high speed traffic is a good way to end a young life really quick and ruin 2 lives at once.

Safety first...

Well, children are our future, and we should work on making them as bright as possible.

I'm happy nobody got hurt that day... I wish more people were this lucky.

I live in a rapidly developing area, but most neighbors are friends and everbody still knows everbody. Even though I have 2 1/2 acres, my from door is literally about 25-30 feet from the main road in the community. My 4 chldren play in the back. My oldest daughter is 9 and her friends (same age, little girls) ride their bikes, skate and take their 4-wheelers around the community. Not only is it dangerous for them to do that unsupervised, we have some high school kids that like to use our nice, smooth, straight road as a drag strip. Recently they had to put up a 4 way stop to slow through traffic. With that said, I was riding with my kids to our grandparents house. When I slowed at the stop, one of her friends blew through the stop sign on her 4-wheeler. Vanessa saw it too. If they had not posted the stop there, I would have hit the girl. It would have killed her no doubt. No helment, no nothing. Vanessa saw it too, s at least now she doesn't argue with me when I say it's not safe.

It is far better that they learn that lesson through what they observe in others than to experience it first hand. I'm glad that they realize the dangers in those areas and the need for caution. sometimes, you just can't tell someone something for them to believe it before they have something to witness themselves, and high velocity, solid 4000-6000 pound objects are nothing to take too many chances with, they tend to be very unforgiving and very difficult to instantaneously alter their momentum.
