Due to life not being all that jolly lately, I decide that I needed to do something to cheer myself up. So I blew all of £8.00 on a box set of the Wrong Turn movies, which are basically about mutant cannibal hillbillies and the fun that they have with people passing by. They're complete drivel and nothing but a gratuitous gorefest, and I haven't ( Read more... )

I once watched ALL the volumes of the Faces of Death series. Pretty ridiculous and pretty gross.

I can't think of any horror movies that really ever scared me, although some creep me out, like the Hellraiser series. And that US series, American Gothic? That was really creepy.

I've never been squeamish so the gore in most movies never bothers me, though I do remember the Hellraiser series being pretty grim, I remember American Gothic as well, and I think that what made that creepy was the sheriff's manipulations!

Glad to see you've got into the Sherlock series as well :D

Oh please, I am obsessed with Sherlock now. LOL.

I thought that one episode where Sheriff Buck had that guy chained to the car wheel? I think that absolutely creeped me out the most. I like horror like Lucas Buck. You don't ever actually SEE anything but you just let it build up, you know it is there but not visible...

Psychological horror is always the best, what your imagination fills in for you, and the potential of what could happen.....

Can't wait for the next series of Sherlock and they haven't even started filming yet!

I'm kind of that way with most "horror" movies. It's hard for me to find anything really scary, and I'm not one for gratuitous violence. There are many horror movies I love such as House of Wax (new and old) anything with Vincent Price, but I don't necessarily find them as scary as I do amusing and interesting concepts. I love horror and Halloween, but as for being actually scared? I can't really think of any movies that have done that. There was one called 13th or maybe it was 7th Moon I watched a while ago that scared me a bit, but I watched it with a friend, it was dark, and there was a thunderstorm going on. The conditions were perfect. Other than that...nothing comes to mind.

I remember watching the original of Salem's Lot, and there's the bit where a characters younger brother as a vampire is floating outside the window and tapping on it to be let in. It was at exactly that point that my cousin came by and tapped on the window..... I could of knocked myself out on the ceiling at the time I jumped so much! Talk about perfect timing :D

I got scared once at a horror movie. It was when the slasher flicks really started to come out. I went to see the first Friday the 13th movie with my boyfriend at the DRIVE-IN. His younger brother had also gone separately, so he decided to hide behind the car and scare the hell out of me when I went to get popcorn.

THAT worked.

I can't recall any that I've been totally frightened of, but 'the shining' always does it to me.
'The Strangers' kind of freaked me out because I live in the middle of the woods.

I agree with you - 'horror' movies are usually funny and/or ridiculous rather than scary, which just amuses me. It's the things you can't see in a film which are frightening, IMHO, rather than all of these 'SAW 100!' blood-fests.

Have you ever seen the old Brit '80's tv series, 'Sapphire and Steel'? It was about a sort of psychic detective team(!) with Joanna Lumley and was supposed to be aimed at a young(ish) audience, but featured some genuinely freaky episodes. There was one eppy about WW2 ghosts at a train station which is not really frightening per se, but definitely chilling, and stays with you. If you want it, I already have it uploaded on megaupload somewhere so just give me a nudge if you want the link?

I agree it's the things that are just out of sight that are the scariest, whatever your imagination fills in for you!

I do remember Sapphire and Steel, and would love to see that episode again, so nudge nudge :D

Here you go - this is the link to my file folder for the 'Sapphire & Steel' episode 'The Railway Station' - it has 8 parts. S&S Link The megaupload password is: vintage. You need to change the file extensions on the episodes from .abc to .avi once downloaded.

Let me know if you want any of the other episodes - assignment 4 ('The Man Without A Face') is also a good one. Enjoy!
