Jean thinks people are using new technology (equipment) to make up for their lacking in skills. She emphasizes fundamentals and he agrees.
They just said cbt is operant conditioning and that is true. I'm annoyed at the suggestion that smarter dogs will somehow be subversive... that's so fucking dumb. Clicker work drives creativity which actually changes their behavior completely, it doesn't make them in any way more deceptive.
How do you get rid of the food - how do we deal with this? CR to get behavior, long times, not like 5 trials. The ballistics of behavior - momentum of behavior - reinforce what you want and not what you don't, if you want to push it for time, then you use intermittent reinforcement...
How many beh do you expect to get w/o reinforcement... Pet owners want thousands. Yeah. reinforcement is a process, not an event. Neat.
Problem- many clicker trainers do different things prior to the click, but the click should be only indication of treat coming.
Behavior doesn't end at the click it ends after food is consumed. Trainer must have awareness of position feeding and fullness of behavior. If person screws up a click, their fault and problem, dog might get pissed but it'll be ok if you get your shit together...
Bob bailey is an unempathic jackass, fyi. He talks about this implanted ultrasonic guidance equipment and training for dogs and cats. He claims there is a calming effect for the animals with the system that is about the novelty combined with the all good nature of the guidance system. He might be all about science but he has no proof that the dog feels comfortably about the guidance signal.
Pavlov is on your shoulder - he means that the behavior is blocked by the animal having a fear. He says essentially that stress impedes learning, which is just what Turid said.
Jean emphasizes conscious choice of the trainer to know what they are working for, whether it is enjoyment or quick results.
He says if a system fails it is a failure, jean doesn't agree, but they both agree that you can't always get 100% reliability on any behavior. She correctly states that trainers need to assess the expense of behaviors on owners.
Socialization turns out to be a key factor, even for govt work. (he told some story. he told some fucking awful stories. i do not like this guy.)
Owner has to declare the desire for the work you will require. Another big truth - you can't get people to do things they don't actually want to do, or care about things they don't want to know.
