I know they do not go into detail with it, but perhaps they did not outlaw positive punishment because something like a body block or verbal "ah" would then also be outlawed. I'm probably giving them too much credit, but I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt. Mostly likely it's all due to money. If they say no P+ at all then some trainers would not pay to take the test and renew every three years so it would lose them revenue.
right, but they can easily use language that excludes fear and pain as options, and they don't. that's an issue for me. including something like "The use of pain and fear as members of this hierarchical element is not part of the ethical types of training accepted by the CCPDT" would be so simple, but it isn't there. i get it that they want the $, but since they have shitty ethics, i'm not ok with them anyway. i've refused to take the cpdt on ethical grounds since i first researched them years ago.
I'm sure they made a decision to specifically not point out p+ methods that use fear or pain, or R- ones for that matter. And it really sucks. We need an organization that will take a bold stand and flat out say that hurting a dog is wrong.
Have you seen Truly Dog Friendly? It's just a group of trainers, no certification or anything like that, but it's nice to have a group of people who are dedicated to only dog friendly methods.
the reason is bc they don't want to have fear/pain users out there without more education. it's a cop out. pain and fear guys don't get much of the education that they need anyway, and sometimes they get the education and use pain and fear anyway because it looks like it works faster for them and for clients, and they are reinforced by the process more than r+ work. r+ beh mod is hard, and tough to get good compliance on, and that deters people who are used to using brute force to get what they want

What else do you not like about the CCPDT?
