What's an androgynous person to do at a wedding? (Or if -10 is female and +10 is male, I'm like a -5.) I've got this very pretty dress but now my mom has the silly notion that I should shave my legs or wear nylons. I suppose if I need to comply entirely with a gender norm, I would look good in a tux, but I was pretty excited about the dress. ( Read more... )

Yeah, I think that "I love you even though _____" means "I disapprove of ____ and fear that you sense my disapproval."

I think at a wedding all that matters is what the bride and groom want, and I think in this specific case the bride and groom will only care about your legs if they are broken and injured in some way--I'd think they just want you to be comfortable and happy. Go as you are, do what makes you happy, and take it up with your mom after the fact.

Also, nylons in July? HOT.

Seconded! And avoid the nylons at all costs, no matter what else you do. *hugs* I'm sorry your feelings are hurt.

Yeah, this. Whose wedding is it? The spouses to be are the ones whose opinions count.

Also, nylons do not look good over actually hairy legs anyway, since you can still see the hair, only now it's all squished and weird looking. You'd need to wear an opaque solid colour like black or blue or something.

I have a female friend that sent to junior prom in a tux. Looked pretty good in it too. But then, she's the kind of person that would rather die than get a dress, so neh.
