I was thinking about that conversation too, and how it's reassuring to know that I'm not some sort of terrible cold-hearted person for thinking the author was melodramatic and self-absorbed. In my experience I have learned that while picking myself up and dusting myself off is not necessarily easy, it is usually the best course of action. Escape and indulgence don't typically fix things.
