Cecil Harvey
"I'll not lose to you, Cecil."
Kain's BFF and rival, Cecil always gives Kain a mix of strong contradictory feelings. One the one hand, there's no one else he respects as much as him. Yet at the same time, Kain is obsessively jealous of Cecil, even more now that he's married to Rosa. While possessed by the Lucavi Cúchulainn, that loathing finally boiled over to the point where he killed Cecil. Ever since then, Kain held even worse guilt about his friend. When Cecil returned much older from the future, with no memories of the incident at the Hunt, Kain avoided informing him for a long time. It was enough to adjust to his friend being much older and from a future Kain still holds no interest in knowing. When Kain was taken away to fight in the war of the gods, Cecil was one of his allies. He was the first person Kain chose to knock to sleep, what are BFFs for, after all? Upon return, Kain finally lifted the burden he'd been carrying all along, telling Cecil what happened during the Hunt. He doesn't think he'll ever be worthy of the other's forgiveness, but is willing to accept any choice Cecil makes about that.

Rosa Farrell
Kain has been in love with Rosa for years, and those feelings have only grown stronger over time. She's the one who can most make him happy and miserable, all at once. He'll do anything for her, will fight to defend her, and also... there's that Dark Side in him who wants nothing more than to take her away for himself. While he feels the same awkwardness about her dramatically aging as he does toward Cecil, she's still Rosa. His attraction to her remains just as strong regardless of the age difference, although lately a certain other blonde lady has started to occupy more of his thoughts... Not that it makes his friendship for Rosa any less. No matter what, she will always remain an important person to Kain.

Rydia of Mist
Kain respects Rydia's abilities in battle, knowing that she makes a powerful ally. At times, he even finds her as someone he can get along with well enough. On the other hand, there have been a few instances where her stubbornness has irritated him. At those times he'd gladly rather avoid her or just spend less time around her if possible. It doesn't help that she went through Memoria with him, so knows exactly how he feels about Rosa. But over time, things have calmed somewhat between them, and Kain has started to feel less annoyance toward her. He respects her connection to Eidolons and thinks that it's a reason that Zephyr has always gotten along with her.

Edge Geraldine
Kain knows Edge is useful as an ally, and doesn't mind having him around for a battle. He's not so fond of the brash, arrogant attitude, or... Edge's personality in general. Yet despite not being able to stand him much, he'd be the first to agree with Edge whenever he expresses doubts about trusting Kain. Now that he's married to Rydia... Kain isn't sure which of the two he feels more sorry for. But he wishes them well, regardless.

Porom
Suddenly dramatically aged and with pink hair, Porom gave Kain the same feeling of weirdness as Palom. He has a hard time setting aside the habit of thinking of her as a child. Her tendency to nag gets on Kain's nerves frequently, as well. He still values her white magic's use in battle, and knows she's highly skilled at what she does.

Palom
Yet again, another surprise with a grown version of someone who Kain knows better as a child. Kain (unsurprisingly) figure that Palom would be irritating as Edge... but so far he remarkably hasn't gotten on his nerves. Still, he's one of their allies from home, so Kain makes sure to tolerate him anyway, and he certainly values his black magic skills.

Ceodore
A nuisance. Almost like having an irritating younger sibling. Initially, Kain wasn't willing to believe that he was Cecil and Rosa'a son, but the resemblance is too unmistakable to deny. For now, Kain is mostly keeping his distance from him, not willing to get very attached either way. He would jump to his defense if it came to it... but that's mostly because he's Rosa's (oh and Cecil's) son than for his own sake. Otherwise Kain is more than content to stay away from him for the most part. His Dark Side has picked up on the resemblance to his father, but has yet to surface and act upon the feelings that invokes.

Yang's daughter, another person from the future who Kain has been so far glad simply staying away from. His feelings about her are obviously less complicated than for someone like Ceodore, since Kain doesn't have any outstanding rivalries with her father. So far, she's managed to earn some respect in battle and remain off of Kain's large list of annoyances.

Golbez
"I will not hesitate."
Golbez will forever give Kain mixed feelings. On the one hand, he's the one who controlled him, who manipulated the darkness inside him and who Kain blames for now having such a strong Dark Side personality. He will never forget being manipulated by him, and his voice still invokes horrible feelings in him. On the other, he knows this is not Golbez's fault, that he was used the same as Kain was. That and he's Cecil's brother. Golbez also aided the side of Cosmos a great deal, by telling Kain critical information about the cycles of war... for that, Kain feels that he owes Golbez somehow. So while he has his personal instincts that go against him... part of him also knows that he's a firm ally.

Another arrival from the future who Kain wants little to do with. Even more so when she joined forces with the other White Mages in forcing him to rest during the monster invasion. A White Mage who can cast Sleep is an annoying person, indeed.

Warrior of Light [Percy]
"An impressive will that never wavers..."
Perhaps because Percy reminds Kain so much of Cecil's goodness and shiny Paladin-ness, that he's come to trust him as an ally and friend. They went through many cycles of war together, and Kain also knew he would be the best one to approach about the truth that Golbez had told him. Together they formed a plan to ensure their allies would make it to the next cycle and have a better chance. Kain counted on him to act as his shield as he went and knocked out allies. Now on Gaia, Kain is glad to hear of Percy's survival to the next round... and also knows that he can still be counted on as a comrade. Particularly as the other regains his memories.

Lightning
"I will show you my strength if you wish."
Lightning is someone who Kain greatly respects, despite their past disagreements. Her overall serious business attitude is similar enough to Kain's own, plus, he appreciates that she's a very capable fighter. She was there when their group fell in battle, earning instant respect points. He can even get along with her when they agree on something, since both are people of few words and keeping to themselves. But when they disagree... it isn't pretty. Kain even fought her, when he was enacting his plan to save Cosmos warriors. Lightning especially strongly opposed this idea. Kain since apologized for his actions but knows and respects that she has the right not to forgive him. He'll proceed with caution around her.

Laguna Loire
"Hard to tell if you are serious."
During an unusual experience, Kain found himself waking up unexpectedly in Dollet along with Penelo and Laguna. He didn't speak to him much after that, and since he's gone home and returned, he's certain the other wouldn't remember the experience anyway. Still, he didn't seem so bad when they did speak. After going off to the events of the war, Kain has now grown to see Laguna as a valuable ally. He was the one who found out about the rift, after all, which was essential information for their team... so Kain trusts him despite his poor sense of direction and overall non-serious demeanor, things which could be irritating but that never bothered Kain much. He was also one of the ones who fell with him as they closed the rift... so he has Kain's full respect.

Tifa
"I see that you will not fall so easily."
Kain didn't associate with Tifa until the war between the gods. During that time, he came to see her as a very trustworthy ally. The fact that she's strong enough to fight with her fists in serious combat is definitely impressive to Kain. In the gods' war, she was also very insistent on helping Kain, reminding him of the bonds of friendship... despite Kain being set on being labeled a traitor. Kain also jumped in to help defend her from Ultimecia, and Tifa gave him a potion when he needed it... and she joined them to close that infamous rift. Although now in Gaia, it seems Tifa has no memory of these events, Kain is still going to count her as a comrade.

Yuna
"Deliver your prayers to heaven."
Another of the people who Kain got to know better in the Void. He had spoken with her a few times in the past on Gaia, but it was during the gods' war that he really got to see her capabilities. He sees her as being strong, unwavering in her determination, despite how soft-spoken she appears on the surface. Her powers are obviously very worthwhile to have in battle, since Kain knows firsthand how strong summoners are. That she joined them to close the rift obviously means a lot to Kain. Even though she doesn't seem to have any memories of the war, Kain still thinks of her as an ally.

Terra
"Mistakes must be atoned for."
Kain met Terra by attacking her. His half-possessed Dark Side came out and attacked her at random in Figaro, leading to arrest and eventual exile from the kingdom. To Kain's surprise, Terra came forth to help him when he was recovering from the Lucavi possession, telling him about her own background under Kefka's control. While he hasn't yet gotten to know her really well, his trust in her is starting to grow and likely will earn another ally over time. After experiencing the gods' war with her being brainwashed on Chaos' side, Kain has found that he understands her even more. He feels bad about having to bring up those memories in her.

Bartz
"Surprising, that you would fear the skies."
Bartz was one of those who Kain only spoke to a few times on Gaia, notably about chocobo riding, when he needed a way of getting around due to his death penalty. But he got to know him better in the Void, and despite the enthusiasm being the exact opposite of Kain's lack thereof, he appreciates him as an ally. Appreciates him so much that Kain made sure to knock him out to sleep, so that he could live to fight in another cycle of war. He still feels guilty about this even though it worked.

"So you're set on fighting."
Another trusted ally and comrade who Kain got to know during the gods' war. He and Firion traveled together, when Firion was getting very worried for their comrades in general. Kain felt guilty about having to knock him out after spending that time together. But he was relieved to know that knocking him out did let him make it to fight in the next cycle. Although Firion doesn't remember the events of the war, Kain still sees him as a trusted comrade.

Jecht
"Confident in aerial combat?"
Kain hasn't interacted with Jecht yet in Gaia, but back during the war they did have an interesting discussion. Basically, Jecht informed Kain that others worried about him (which came as a huge shock to Kain), and tried to get the idea in his mind to lighten up. Kain actually was appreciative and thanked him for it. He had been overall rather surprised to have the not-so-serious Jecht actually coming to him with such an issue. He eventually learned of his side-swapping for the following cycle, and would be sympathetic toward the brainwashing issue. Since he's someone Yuna knows, Kain will also be willing to trust him for that reason.

Despite not knowing him before on Gaia, Kain is well aware that Gabranth fought on Chaos' side in the war of the gods. They didn't really interact much beyond that... and Kain doesn't know enough about him other than that. He would remain wary and cautious if they met.

Onion Knight

The kid was among those who Kain was able to knock out and put to sleep during the war of the gods. He knows that despite his youth, the Onion Knight is a valuable ally- he wouldn't have knocked him out to save for the next round otherwise. They've only spoken briefly so far on Gaia regarding the twelfth cycle of the war and Kain's actions.

Squall
"Not the lone wolf, are you?"
Another ally of the gods' war who Kain caught up with and put to sleep through backstabbing. Squall is a loner like Kain, which undoubtedly means he'd understand his need for personal space and solitude. Kain also obviously sees him as a useful fighter, since he made sure he lived to see the next round. On Gaia they've spoken only a few times, particularly when Kain contacted those he'd betrayed.

Tidus
"Why don't you test your luck against the sun?"
Yet another from the gods' war, he's an interesting case since Kain remembers him as being a warrior of Chaos. Revealing this information to Tidus understandably did not go over very well. Kain is going to keep his distance from him for now, because he's not sure the other trusts him very well. But he'd still be loyal to him despite the past. For one thing Kain understands how it is to go through mind-control and be on the wrong side. For another, Tidus is Yuna's significant other and since Yuna is someone Kain trusts... he's going to at least be willing to stand by him in battle if anything. Plus, Kain understands how it is to have father issues.

Zidane was among those who Kain 'helped' by knocking them out during the twelfth cycle of the war. Like the other fighters he backstabbed, Kain sees Zidane as a capable, worthy fighter... and thus worth saving to fight in the future. On Gaia, Kain revealed this information to him, and they spoke about it, although as far as he knows Zidane doesn't remember any of that cycle. Kain is willing to trust him in the way he does the other allies, though.

"If I must fight forever, so be it."
In the war between Cosmos and Chaos, Garland was an enemy- a warrior of Chaos. As such, Kain already knows him to be a formidable opponent. He didn't have as much personal dealing with him as others, but he at least knows he's not to be underestimated. The fact that he's wreaking such havoc on Gaia only makes Kain loathe him further.

Another warrior of Chaos, who Kain knows to be a tough fighter. They didn't interact much during the war, and Kain doesn't know much else about him, other than that he's linked to Tifa's past in a bad way. He'll be wary of him on Gaia.

During the 012 cycle, Kain knew Cloud to be a warrior of Chaos. It was thus surprising to learn from others that like Tidus he'd switched sides for the final battle. Kain will be guarded and cautious of him but considering Tifa's connection with him he'll at least not become hostile toward him.

She's a kid. :| One who knows far too much about Kain's inner fears and desires, thanks to going through Memoria together. He's content avoiding her as much as he can, so that she doesn't bring up Rosa in the wrong place and time. She really didn't help her case by taking part in making a false love letter from him to Reis. Kain is even less likely to want to trust the kid, now.

Kain got to know Celes first in battle, and found her to be highly skilled. Later on, they also met for a sparring session, which Kain found to be an exciting challenge. He's also had some important discussions with her particularly after the Lucavi incident, and is starting to see her as a trustworthy ally.

Not long after Kain arrived, he took on one of the hunts offered, and Steiner happened to join him. He finds Steiner's loyalty to his kingdom highly respectable, comparable to his own devotion to Baron. Kain would join him in battle were it ever needed.

Kain found Ellone to be a pleasant enough type after meeting her and talking a couple times. Later on, Ellone sent several consciousnesses of people she knew back into the past as a result of a time loop... including Kain. This led to Kain being unconscious for a week while experiencing the world from Dr. Cid's perspective. He doesn't hold any ill feeling toward Ellone for any of that, though, since it was what had to be done at the time.

While the possession of the Lucavi was taking hold on Kain... he went on something of a rampage in Edgar's kingdom, attacking Terra. This obviously didn't go over well, and Kain landed in the dungeon as a result. The sentence became an exile, essentially, and Kain was fine staying away from the kingdom. However, because of Reis' presence in Figaro, Kain has needed to ask to be allowed back. Kain has to admit that Edgar was in the right to do as he did... and will keep wary not to let his Dark Side out anywhere near Figaro.

Refia
Kain knows that White Mages can be stubborn (he grew up with Rosa). But Refia seems to take the stubborn to new levels, that Kain was clearly not prepared for. An incident wherein Refia sat on him to make him take healing and rest sticks out in his memory. Kain has resolved to keep a distance from her... if he can. Too bad for Kain that didn't last, and Refia had to yell at him again to rest while injured, causing an epic plague of White Mage Nagging to descend upon Kain.

Minwu shocked Kain when he mentioned knowing a Highwind by the name of Ricard, whose background greatly resembled his father. There were enough differences to make it seem a tremendous coincidence, but the similarities have made Kain wonder about the nature of connection between the worlds. Of course, it's all merely speculation, but Kain is interested in anything Minwu has to say about the Ricard he knows. Overall, Kain would have to get to know him more, but he hasn't found himself disliking Minwu.

Kain doesn't know Fang well, and would be content not to. Their first meeting, Kain developed rivalrous feelings toward her, since she fights in the style of dragoons and has the sort of attitude that sparks annoyance in Kain.

Matoya
A freaky old woman who Kain is uncertain about. He'd heard things about her, but not bothered to seek her wisdom until Rydia was planning to make such a trip, to ask about the effects of the Iifa Tree on those revived from death. Kain... didn't make a great impression that first time, and knows it (he spent most of the time bickering with Edge). The second trip he made there went better, the news they received being mixed in nature- Mjrn being alive, but the worlds being in danger if people willingly returned home... along with the fact that Reis' beloved, Beowulf, wouldn't emerge on Gaia. Despite the bad, the good outweighed it, so Kain is desperate to believe her words... even if he thinks Matoya is absolutely crazy.

Reis
Kain met Reis when she was trapped in dragon form, initially a target of a Hunt. He felt bad about her plight, and visited with her a few times while she was still a dragon. When Kain was killed as a Lucavi, it was Reis who cared for his then months-old baby dragon, Zephyr. Kain returned to find Reis' affliction cured, and that Zephyr was kept in great health by her. He feels unending gratitude toward Reis for caring for his dragon, and has warmed up enough to place more trust in her than he would most people. He's extended the offer to her to visit Zephyr as much as possible... and feels it important to seek her out regularly. This feeling has only strengthened once Reis learned devastating news from Matoya, that Beowulf would never arrive on Gaia. Since that time, Kain has grown even closer to Reis, coming to see her as a caring, trustworthy friend. She once more had to care for Zephyr while Kain was drawn off to the gods' war... something he feels he owes her greatly for. The preteen girls of Gaia didn't help (or did they?), having given Reis a fake love letter from him. That was the first time Kain consciously gave thought to the idea of Reis like that... and it really didn't seem like such a bad thought, to him. With the final chance to go home looming, Kain feels it right to insist she go, despite how heartbroken it would make him feel.

Ricard Highwind
The unexpected arrival of none other than his dead father was certainly a surprising experience for Kain. This Ricard Highwind comes from a different world, which completely confuses the matter... yet he's unmistakably the same person. Somehow. As far as Kain can tell. Yet otherworldly confusion or not, there's no one Kain respects more, and he's constantly striving to prove himself a worthy son.

Kain has tremendous respect for Mjrn because of her choice to become a dragoon. He helped with much of her training as she worked on that, finding her to be a skilled, determined fighter. He feels personally responsible for her death at the hands of Lucavi, since he was one of them himself and also knew she held the Virgo stone. He will never forgive himself for that. He was able to at least find solace when he learned that she's alive again, somewhere other than Gaia... and finally has found more peace about matters with her return to Gaia. She remains a strongly trusted friend and ally.

RETURNED HOME
Penelo
Over time, Penelo has grown to be a good ally of Kain's and quite possibly now a friend (even from Kain's perspective). He's always glad to have White Mages around, of course, but sometimes the stubbornness they have can be frustrating and Penelo is no exception. Still, Kain is glad that she's still willing to be his friend... especially after the Lucavi incident. The fact he killed her, even temporarily, is something Kain will never forgive himself for. He's tried to move on from it, but still feels horrible about this. He will forever feel that he owes her. She's earned his friendship and his trust, and with her considering a return home, Kain is trying to hide how sorrowful he feels about that. He's determined to respect her decision either way. But she disappeared before having to make that decision. Kain realizes that this was probably for the best, but he will forever miss her regardless.

Ramza
Kain met Ramza and got to know him on the hunt where they discovered Reis. Ever since, he's found Ramza to be a good ally in a battle, someone he knows he can always count on. He even finds him rather pleasant to talk to, outside of fighting. Kain relied heavily on Ramza's knowledge of Lucavi while dealing with those enemies. He also was grateful he had Ramza's support after he came back to life from the Lucavi incident, something he feels he will have to repay someday. Unfortunately, Ramza has since disappeared, leaving it questionable if Kain ever will be able to repay the debt he feels he owes. He'll always think of him as a supportive comrade, and with his perspective of war from the gods' conflict... he now realizes that he was in fact, a friend.

Edward Chris Von Muir
Kain finds Edward infuriating to deal with. In Kain's viewpoint, his peace-loving ways and preference for music over fighting make him a coward. Not to mention his habit for running and hiding in battle. Still, as much as he's prone to picking on the poor bard, secretly Kain would admit that he's a loyal ally to have around. He's tried to ease up in attitude toward him in more recent times, especially considering the Lucavi incident and what he did to Penelo. Kain is strangely glad that Edward got to kill off his Lucavi-possessed self. For Penelo's sake, Kain actually wishes he might return someday to Gaia.

Vaan
"Are you aware the skies are merciless?"
In Gaia previously, Kain met Vaan mostly through his association with Penelo. He knew of him more than knew him for a while, although Vaan had been there at the Iifa Tree to help when Kain returned after the Festival of the Hunt incident. He didn't know him closely enough at that time, but got to know him better during the gods' war. Vaan could have been one of the types to really annoy Kain, by being so upbeat and in general high-energy. Yet despite his overall personality, over time during the course of the war, Kain grew to appreciate him. The fact that he came with them and fought beside them to close the rift was an instant respect-earner, as well.

Another who Kain has a mixed opinion about. Kain once spent a week seeing through Cid's eyes, so he gained a disturbing idea about his perspective. He was also possessed by a Lucavi like Kain, so because of that Kain is... a little more willing not to dismiss him outright as a monster as so many others have. Still, it's doubtful Kain would exactly trust the man completely were he to meet him again.

Kain really despises Kefka, and found him a difficult opponent, considering his skills with magic. He also doesn't like how stirred up his Dark Side became by his presence, and always took caution to remain wary around him. He didn't have much to do with him in the gods' war, but he knows him as an enemy, a fighter of Chaos.

"There's no end to my trials..."
Kain isn't too fond of Kuja, knowing he's had some hand in their situation, somehow. And yet, they held some interesting conversations. Of course the fact his Dark Side was very intrigued by Kuja was enough reason for Kain to be cautious around him. He knows Kuja has since disappeared/reappeared and is unlikely to remember him, but he'll be cautious around him all the same. Doubly cautious if he ever reappears, considering he now also knows him to be a warrior of Chaos.

A warrior of Chaos during the 012 war and thus an enemy. During the course of that cycle, Kain jumped in to help Tifa against her... and Ultimecia proceeded to taunt about Kain being a traitor. On Gaia, she also caused considerable chaos and devastation, thus continuing to prove herself a fearsome enemy. Fortunately for the people of Gaia, she was eventually killed off.
