We were planning on taking Shep out on Tuesday to Piper's Lagoon, having a picnic with him with some of his favorite treats and foods and maybe even roasting him a marshmallow or two, before we took him in to the vet's on Wednesday ( Read more... )

I am so sorry to hear this - not that Shep is out of pain, but that you have lost a dear companion. My thoughts are with you.

Thank you for your thoughts. We had so hoped that would could give him an extra-special day before he had to leave us, and the worst is that he had such a horrible night. We did our best to ensure that wouldn't happen and we failed him, but I'm sure he knew that we loved him, and we were with him at the end.

At least you can take comfort in knowing that he had a full, loving, and extremely spoiled life all the years he was with you! I am sorry for you. I'll miss him a lot too!
