One of my friends goes to Wooster college in Ohio. She and a bunch of friends found the usually-locked top floor open one day, so they went in. It was really dusty and old, but one girl found a Seventeen magazine from the seventies that she took out with her.
For the next week, there were all kinds of crashing noises from the upstairs - stomping feet, things being dragged, etc. The college people said nothing was going on up there. Rumors circulated that when the top floor had been open for student habitation, a girl had hung herself in the common room there and that she still haunted it. The girl with the seventeen magazine slid it back under the upstairs door.

No more noises ever again.
