Why not write them in a text editor and then copy/paste? I tend to do that when I remember. Lots of people report that they get posts eaten when the server fails to respond as they hit post or a myriad of other bad things happen. Plus extra spell check is nice, tho many Lj posting clients have a spell check too fwiw.

I strongly suggest at least locking to friends only the work related rants. If you don't it can come back and bite you ont he ass hard when you least expect it. I discovered that the hard way. Most locks in general on LJ seem to be for that or similar functions.

I have some things in my life that I don't want everyone to know about. I have things I write that I don't want people who know me to stumble across.

I have some rants about people who don't have LJ and I don't want them stumbling across the entries of me venting and thinking the wrong thing.
