An Update Of Sorts

First day of school. I call home, making sure everything is on schedule as best I can, and the house is bustling. Alexis is chafing at the bit to see her friends. I'm just hoping that this might be the year that she starts to take the education side of her school year more seriously. I don't need my kids to be straight-A students; gods know ( Read more... )

I had all four wisdom teeth out while I was in tech school at Keesler AFB, sometime in 1974. I remember being totally out and incoherent for the first day after. I went to class, took my meds like the dentist said I should, and the next thing I remember is the instructor prodding me and saying, "Brinegar - wake up, it's time to leave". Stuff knocked me out cold in a matter of a couple of minutes. I couldn't even march with the squadron back to the dorm; I had to be walked back by a friend.

Oh, one other thing - be prepared for a liquid diet for at least the first few days, if not the entire couple of weeks. I lived on soup, milk shakes, jello, and other almost-liquid foods until I returned to the dentist two weeks later to have the packing and stitches removed. Let's just say it was a learning experience in tolerance - tolerance for pain, tolerance for meds, and tolerance for an abrupt change in diet for that time period.

Hi! I was reading your comments on the XKCD LJ feed, and thought you sounded cool (from one geek to another). I added you as a friend - hope you don't mind.

Did the wisdom teeth extraction go ok? I had mine out right after high school, and I couldn't talk for a week. I remember going around with a dry erase board so I could communicate. One heck of a way to have an argument, let me tell you. *grin*

No, I don't mind at all. Note that it's been a while since I've updated; I need to get better about that, I think. I've just got to remember that I should be writing in here for me; commentary would be nice, but when push comes to shove this is a medium that we can use to track ourselves. Even when we find ourselves dreadfully dull ( ... )

I understand about the lack of updating - as you've probably noticed by now, the majority of my journal is piped in from Twitter, since I find it much easier to update in 140 characters or less. *laugh* I have to keep reminding myself to post longer things from time to time. If something is exceptionally bad, exceptionally good, or just sticks in my head and makes me crazy for a while, it's good to post. I feel better after, even if no one comments (which often happens on here). It fascinates me that what one person finds dull about themselves, another person will find interesting. I've got an LJ friend who posts simple pictorial updates about the garb she's made, and I love reading those posts (though I'm sure to her, they're just run of the mill stuff ( ... )
