The Legend of Korra S1 E6 Review

This episode! *flails arms* Loved it!  So much fantastic action scenes.

Lin is badass! I want to see her fight more because those scenes were amazing. She’s tough and despite being a rule-stickler, you can see Toph reflected in Lin. Both of them don’t back away from a fight or threat and they’re both very strong. I bet Toph would be proud of her daughter though she’d want her to relax and lighten up too.

Now that I’ve learned Lin’s reason for disliking Korra, I think it’s really unfair of her to hold what happened between her and Tenzin against Korra. While it’s clear a part of her also doesn’t like Korra for being a trouble-making vigilante, it seems most of her dislike for the Avatar comes from Korra’s association with Tenzin. Which again, really unfair of her, but then matters of the heart are rarely fair or rational. The Korra-Lin team-up against the Equalists was really cool. They make a good team and hopefully we’ll get more scenes of the two fighting together.

Lol, I loved Korra teasing Tenzin about being a heartbreaker. They’ve got a close relationship and while Korra respects Tenzin as her airbending master, she’s okay with teasing and rattling him. “Why am I even telling you this?” Oh Tenzin, you just like to talk about your past. This little scene was probably one of my favorites in this episode.

Tahno is such a diva. The Wolfbats’ entrance was overly theatrical and I rolled my eyes when the flames shot up. Admittedly, their masks were cool and I did like the howling. It was just that the special effects were overdoing it.

But grr, they’re cheaters. I don’t like cheaters and I don’t like people who bribe refs either. No wonder they always win. Seeing Korra beat Tahno one-on-one was extremely satisfying especially because the Fire Ferrets ended up losing to the Wolfbats. Well, it certainly helped Amon’s point that the cheaters won… If the Ferrets had won, what would he have said? They were the underdog team and they played fair; not really a good victory for the message the Equalists wanted.

I love the announcer guy. In fact, I love him so much that he’s probably my favorite reoccurring background character. He called the refs out for letting the fouls slide. Unfortunately he couldn’t actually do anything about that, but at least he spoke up so everyone knew the Wolfbats were a pack of low cheaters. Also, I really enjoyed how he kept narrating what was going on as the Equalist entered the booth. What a great guy!

More flashbacks! I caught Toph and Aang and apparently Sokka was there, but I think I missed him because he flashed by so fast. Must look up some screenshots… I hope we get more explanations about them. Maybe Aang’s sending the visions to Korra, but because Korra’s so out of sync with her spiritual side, she only gets them in flashes when she’s unconscious. Or maybe the Avatars have a collective memory and Korra’s tapping into that accidently every time she gets knocked out. What do you guys think?
