My grandpa died today.

 So I have my first draft feature this past Friday and it was awesomely fun. I was really proud of the rang of work I was able to complete and perform-6 of the 9 poems I did were written after Joanna asked me to do the feature-the other 3 were things I had worked on previously but had of course never gotten to place where I wanted to read them ( Read more... )

-IWPS Grand Slam for Writers' Block came and went...I took 3rd...it was a close one. I had sort of kicked myself for the 2nd round poem-I did Storm Chaser-tried to give it  something different-tried to show some range in each round.  So my official full time start date has been slated for August 31st! (it would"ve been the 30th but I requested that day off weeks ago in order to go to Indy for my feature!) I just have to make it thru the rest of this months round of bills and rent on my part time pay and then I will relax a little, but the fact that there is light at the end of ( Read more... )

 So Dain has started training for work and I got the good news that I will be going full time at DSW soon-which for me means more money and Paid Time Off (which I can use to go and do poetry features out of town-WOOT!). Coming back has been harder than expected. Got really lonely last night-wanted a lobby full of poets to go to.
thankfully I do have the wonderful family of Writers' Block...some of the regulars I was missing this summer have made their way back, but where did Joel go?!

As I think I made pretty clear was pretty much an amazing week. It was a lot to take in. I think I am still processing some of it but the one thing I do know for sure is that I have come away wanting more specifically to write more funny pieces. We had a 2nd bout last night against some seriously heavy hitting teams-I think we held our own nicely. We yet again drew the A with me yet again in the one slot. I did Gorgon-I was really proud of my performance. Got good crowd reaction-many hugs and high 5's coming off stage. Our team I think collectively was strong all night. No regrets ( Read more... )
