if you noticed, the vocal melodies are far from anything simple, its what the whole band is based upon. Ben has an extreme talent for making some of the catchiest and most complex and daunting lyrical lines of contemporary music, especially with the higher register he uses a good amount of songs in "Plans" that demonstrates that he also has an amazing range...

Chris Walla would probably jump off the bridge to know that you think the whole band is based on the "vocal melodies" and not his arrangement, which has carried the bands since Something About Airplanes. Catchy? Yes. Complex and daunting? Hardly. His lyrical content suffers noticeably, especially with his preoccupation with love and the death of said love. That's what the whole album is about, a Transatlanticism Pt.2 that just deals with those subjects, and it's boring. These are not stand out lines, and certainly not as noteworthy as you say. As for his range, hardly. The man has high and whining and medium high and breathy. Everyone can use a chest voice and a head voice, but it doesn't mean that they've got range. These songs have no real moving parts. They're basic arrangements.

It's a lot cooler when you can actually learn the proper terms for the things, and not just strings of adjectives to describe them.
