For those of you hat don't know, we had a puppy for about 2 weeks two weeks ago and took him back to the shelter. It was a no kill sheler and he was 4 months old, so i'm sure he has already been adopted by now. He was such a handful. We live in an apartment and it wasn't far because he was cooped up in his crate a lot during the day. I came home ( Read more... )

on one hand, crating a puppy isn't near the mean and thoughtless thign people seem to think it is, so you can rest easy on that. when you start crate traingin a puppy young, they eventually start to think of it as their space, like a kid going ot it's room or it's bed.

on the other hand, i know it sucks, but dogs are pretty needy, and not an investment one should make unless they have time to put toward it. owning a dog is a lot like having a kid that never grows up, in my eyes. I've had to do this exact thing once in my life, but in the end i'm convinced it was the right thing. having taken him back to a no kill shelter, and the fact that he was so young, you're probably right that he isn't going to spend much time there before being adopted again.
